Can I use the same pad for polishing with two polishes?

I am going to be polishing via PC with SSR2.5 and SSR1 in about a week. I only have two polishing pads right now, and one of them is pretty well caked with AIO. I was wondering if it would be wise to go ahead and use the same white polishing pad for the 2.5 and then turn around and use the SSR1 with the same pad, or would this negate the effects of SSR1 in removing any hazing left by 2.5?

I can go down to the local detail shop and pick up another polishing pad easily enough, but I have always wondered about this. Thanks.

Its usually not a good idea to use two products on one pad as the remains of the previous product may contaminate the current product, or have some other negative effect. I don't see why you can't clean your pad after use, then use the other product? Also, you AIO pad could be cleaned up too?

I've tried to get the pad caked with AIO clean. I think it's just time to chalk up my loss on that one and get a new pad. I've had it for a long time anyways.

I understand not using two completely different products on the same pad, but with the SSR2.5 and SSR1, the only difference is the cutting power, so that's why I was curious.

I've never tired it but would imagine that going from SSR 1 to 2.5 (not the other way around) would be ok during the same session since your just increasing the cutting power and the SSR1 has not had time to dry on the pad. Going to a different product or a milder abrasive polish IMHO would not give you the results your looking for and MAY just marr the paint.

You should be able to clean your AIO pad, try letting it soak in a bucket with warm water and a good APC, it works for me.

Im with Axe on this, just clean the 2.5 pad, spin dry it , and re-use with the SSR1. :xyxthumbs

I've been polishing mine over the past week, a little here and there, and have just one hand polishing foam pad. I'm doing it by hand, I don't have a pc. I have the Poorboys' SSR 1, 2, and 2.5 and ended up starting with #1 on the hood, found it wasn't doing anything, so tried #2 with same pad still wet with #1, the pink + blue made for a funny color. Then immediately used the 2.5, on same wet pad of #1+#2 because I still had some good scratches. Each night I would rinse the pad under hot water to get the SSR out of it. Did the same thing next day on the back bumper and some quarter panels. No problems. With the ssr 2.5 by hand it took little effort, so I'd say be careful when using a pc. Defintely try #2 before 2.5.

Unless you clean the polishing pad out, going from any heavy cut (2.5 or 2) polish to a fine cut (ssr1) I don't think will work because you will most likely have enough heavy polish left on or in the pad which will defeat the purpose of the fine polish.

agree with raven

It's OK as long as you're going from a less abrasive product to a more abrasive product. Using Poorboy's products for example:

starting with PPP or SSR1 and you find you need something more aggressive, then it's OK to use SSR2.5 on the same pad.

If you start with SSR2.5 & get some hazing, it's not OK to use SSR1 on the same pad.

Personally, I prefer to use one product per pad & then toss the soiled pad in a bucket of soapy water.

At the end of the day, all pads get washed & nothing is allowed to dry on (and in) the pad than may form an abrasive lump.

If you cant get the AIO pad clean, try soaking it in diluted APC (go up on the dilutions if it doesn't work). If it still doesnt work, you could try gunk or another solvent degreaser. I cant promise it won't burn a hole through the pad, but I can guarantee itll take out the AIO:).

IPA won't do much, IMHO. Warm water and liquid detergent will do. Let it soak in a bucket for an hour then rinse.

I've done it without a problem. You should, of course, wash the pad b4 switching to the next product IMO.

I don't see a problem going up the abrasive scale (SSR2.5 after SSR1) but I would definatley clean the pad if you were stepping down. A different pad is always my prefference.
