Can I spot polish a panel?

Might seem like a silly question but is it safe to spot polish a panel (ie. a bird poop etching area) with X product and pad then go area the whole panel afterwards with Y product and pad? Or must I polish the whole panel with X then Y setup?

You're fine spot polishing I do it all the time. Just remember if you use a strong polish or compound follow up with a lighter one, just like if you were doing the whole panel and the trick is as you get lighter in the polish you cover a slightly larger spot so you get even polishing action. And don't forget to wax.

I do far more spot-correction than full-panel correction.

I too think you'll find it beneficial to gradually expand the area of operation as you progress through your steps so there isn't a big diff between the just-corrected area and the rest of the panel, and I sorta like to re-LSP the whole panel, or even the whole vehicle, just to ensure that it all "flows" if you get my meaning.
