What type of cameras you guys using when taking pictures of cars? Post some pictures of shots taken with cameras if you want, looking to buy a new set up that has the best, cleanest shot available for under $300 dollars, tell the model and any lenses or other equipment used in taking your pictures.

unfortunately good cameras are expensive... and it would be hard to find a good one for under $300... I have probably your best option... but still doesn't compare to a DSLR.

Here is what I use: Panasonic - Lumix 10.1-Megapixel Digital Camera - Black - DMC-ZS1K

Probably the best zoom you will find in a pocket size camera...

Here is an example of picture quality... although its been resized (down) so it lost some of its quality...

I have a Fuji FinePix S1500 DSLR 10MP I got from Amazon.com. I honestly think the picture is made in editing NOT the shot itself. With that being said, Lightroom is a wonderful piece of software ;]

For under $300, you aren't getting any DSLR, not new anyway. You certainly aren't getting any good glass. That said, you can take amazingly good pictures with a $100 camera as long as there is plenty of light or if you have a tripod. A camera makes a good photographer like a good pot makes a good cook, or good rotary makes a good detailer. IMO Canon makes the best all around point and shoot cameras. Nikon makes great SLRs but their P&S range isn't in the same league as Canon and Panasonic. Forget Kodak, Polaroid, Samsung, and Fuji, they might have a few notable cameras, they don't have a good brand line.

There are some good point and shoot cameras out there for under $300 and I agree that Canon makes the best P & S.

Moving to dSLR opened so many more avenues for my photography. I wouldn't shy away from a like new or excellent (or at the right place and right retailer - bargain) dSLR and start with a good all around and inexpensive lens (some can be had for $50). Even this set up will match the best P & S.

From there you can grow into what ever lenses and bodies you can afford and think you need. Ultimately will give you the most flexibility and the best photographs.

We have a Canon Powershot SX100, but the new one is SX120 - 10 megapixel with a 10x optical zoom. These run about $250 retail. Great pocket camera.

I use a Canon Powershot SD1100 IS for project stuff, but also have a Nikon D60. No comparison, but the Canon is great for documentation purposes and your price range.

Thank you for all the information, looks like a cannon is my best bet for point and shoot, my mother told me I could use her nikon d40 for taking pictures. Is this a good camera?

Very solid. DSLR, entry level at 6.1mp, but takes great pictures and is user friendly.

Just because one person has a camera, doesn't mean your pics will EVER look the same. Point and shoots are exactly that, you point and shoot. A DSLR camera its all up to the photographer. You can still get good results with a point and shoot, just mess with some of the settings.

Nikon D60 with 18-55 VR Lens and 55-200mm VR Lens and Tripod sometimes. Fully Manual Mode with no Post editing what so ever. I re sized and added a border, that's it.
