Camaros?

Has anyone heard or read anything about the Camaro making a comeback? Ford did such an outstanding job with the Mustang...It's a shame that Chevy let this car die. it would be nice if they re-introduced it as a 40th year anniversary car for 2007.

Yeah the Zeta platform it was going to be built on was scrapped shortly after Bob Lutz got bumped out of his old job by Rick Wagoner. I now seriously doubt we'll ever see it reach gestation.

It is, at best, a wishful longshot. I seriously doubt that it will resurface soon. GM has its work cut out for it.

It's such a shame too, they were always such nice cars... The fourth gens did seem to slip a bit though... Mind you, there are some awesome looking fourth gens, but still...:(

/Owns an 82 Z28.

Yeah, it looks like they're cutting their affordable performance lineup down to the GTO, SS variants, and GXP. Too bad, IMHO. GM has got to be the worst run car company out there. They're letting Ford hand their asses to them, which in my book is truly sad.

It's annoying to say, but you're probably right.. And geez, have you looked at their next SS lineup? Sure, they've all got moderate or better engines, but for crying out loud, if it's a four door, I hardly justify the SS badge.. Admittedly, the trailblazer SS certainly has the power, but something seems wrong there to me.

The only car I see in the SS lienup that I think can be justified is the SSR. And even then, it's no even a car.. The Monta Carlo has the power, kind of, and the looks, kind of, but still, it barely counts... Everything else just doesn't cut it..

Well, and even at that the SSR is just a Trailblazer SS with a different body on it. Both are using the same 390HP LS2, both have the same GMT-360 platform frame and underpinnings, they share suspension components, etc.

I don't know... soon enough GM will no longer exist anyways with how things are going.

IMHO they don't have a single car worthy of the SS badge! The picture that was posted here before was ill received as it just took too many cues from past cars. Go after one of the older cars if you must and make it tasteful, call it a Camaro, make it fast as hell and put some SS tags on it.

No problem with a TRUE SS Impala either but that front wheel drive SS BS has to go!

I hope they do not come out with another Camaro line. ;)

I got 2 black ones (one coupe(67) and 1 convertible (95)) in storage (67 and 95 Z28). :xyxthumbs

Actually, it would be nice to see a 67 body style with modern underpinnings. :woot:

I agree, I love the Camaros. With a new frame style they would probably be much more recieved and have far better sales.

On a side note, I read the that buick is considering a new GNX with twin turbos in 2007. The pictures I saw looked like the GTO with a buick grill. I'm a big GM fan , but everything "cool" looks like a Grand Am.

I hope they dont ruin the Prestige of the GNX.

And if the Camaro were to come back, I hope it comes back in style.

I see this stated on almost every car board I frequent, I think the consensus is that the photos and "press release" that is sometimes posted with them was actually an enthusiast creation, sort of like the chevelle based on the Monaro (GTO) platform. It wasn't meant to deceive, just as a styling / design excercise, but it gets reposted elsewhere out of context and people start believing it's true.

If anything they would copy the 69 style more than the 67 since that's the "Ultimate" to most folks.

I actually like 70.5 split bumper cars the best. :dance I saw one once that someone had retrofitted a 4th-gen interior into, and put a modern LS1 under the hood. :woot:
