Camaro SS vs. Z06 - It still a toss up *Sweet Vid*

friend of mine has a new zo6 on order to replace his 2003 zo6. The 03 is scary fast, cant even imagine 100 more hp!

I have driven a new ZO6 and it is insane. I would love to have one. I think I would steer clear of the nitrous though.

The Z06 in the video put the nitrous on and then went with the "spray and pray" tune. It ended up burning plugs and possibly some cylinders.

Most likely

I'd rather not compare the two (not even talking about the '06) unless its a drag race with 60 ft. times and all. They share the same engine technology, but the two are almost different animals altogether.

I like both cars for their abilities in their respected ranges, but it is folly to compare a camaro to the letter to a z06 unless you're talking about modded cars and, like I said, in a drag race.

Awesome! I've got a 1994 Z28 with some mods (namely 383 stroker, flowmaster, CAI, custom tune, eibach suspension), figure it's around the 340-380 HP range - but for some reason, I absoloutly love the new Z06. I love it some much that since I'll never afford one, I'm determined to make my car faster! :p

Gimme more POWERRRRR!!!! :spot

Seriously though... I'd kill for a C6 Z06. I'd really take it over practically any exotic (short of an Enzo or something).

It's too bad the new Z06 requires 93 octane or I'd be looking to replace my current Z06 with one. The highest grade I can get is 91. Boo.

If that's the case we can't have any in CA! You might want to do a little research on that. I'd have to believe that the minimum would be 91 at the most.

Guess we can't have any of the C6's then?? Must be a requirement to get the max HP/Torque numbers. There are many states that don't have 93 octane gas so I dunno what that's going to mean for the car.

93 is recommended for the LS2 powered C6. I have an LS2 powered GTO and run 91 octane with no ill effects.

:sign That idiot.

How can you buy a $70K car and trash it like that?? I would bet that that Vette is going to be on blocks for a bit as I guarantee there are no replacement parts out just yet for the LS7.

That new Z is a bonafide 11 second car right off of the showroom floor. With a good driver and some rubber he would have given that SS a run even with the nitrous on. If the Z driver lost...so what...he got sprayed!!! Now for the simple fact that he just couldn't loose he has a 3100lbs. paper weight. Some folks just have more money than sense.

Mental note...stay away from buying a "lightly used" and "low mileage" machine silver '06 Z.

New cars have knock sensors which will retard the timing a little if the octane # would cause pinging. If the car shows no ill effects with 91 octane it should be alright, remember this is still premium. It would probably not make max horsepower, but how often would you need 500 horse. You could always add octane boost if needed.

If that were the case, I'd rather have the regular C6 (which I'm in the process of buying) and doing all the bolt ons, maybe a heads and cam package, and make damn near 500 horsepower, and have a car that has a targa roof and a 6 speed paddle shift automatic. I don't see the point of owning a Z06 that's rated at 505 hp SAE certified and then running lower grade fuel on it, risking pinging and detonation, just to say ya have a new Z06..... with what? 450 hp? So then you have a $70k car with 50 more horsepower than a $52K regular coupe C6. I can't justify it at all.

owner said no stock crate engine is going back in. He mentioned Lingenfelter...

I wouldn't let the fact that it needs 93 instead of 91 deture me from buying it, even if I couldn't get 93. A bottle of octane booster every now and then isn't much of a problem, IMHO.
