California Car Duster

I have a California Car Duster that I have used for maybe 7 years, I love it! However, for the first time since I have owned it, I cleaned it in the clothes washer. After drying, it looked like brand new, but now it does not work the same, it just pushes the dust around. I am getting a new one, but does anyone know can you wash these?

Thanks

If memory serves, the fibers are coated with a wax substance which explains the instructions to prepare it when it's new.

So, it's that waxy stuff that actually picks up the dust particles. It also mentions it keeps working as it gets dirtier and dirtier.

I'm thinking when you put it through the washer, you removed all that dirt laden wax, resulting in nice clean cloth fibers without any wax substance left on them.

That's why your unit is just pushing the dust around now. I don't think you can replenish all your missing waxy stuff so that duster is doomed. Toss it.

So, go and buy another one and don't ever wash it again.

Don't buy a new one just yet. I've never washed mine but every couple of months I spray Opti-car wax on it to re-up on the wax. Try that before you buy another one. I would think any spray wax should do the trick. Post back with your results.
