California car duster question

Can the CCD be used to "mop up" morning dew? Most of the dirt on my car comes from dew on the hood/roof/trunk, and when I drive to school, the dust sticks to the dewy areas and then dries.

Would it hurt the CCD?

Thanks.

It's been my experience that water and the CCD don't get along very well. Seems the coating on the fibers cause streaks when they are wet. And if there is any dust on the surface, the CCD won't "attract" it like it's designed to, which could cause scratching because the grit would just be dragged around. .

Just let it dry on it's own and follow up with CCD and QD. Works fine for me.

No, that's not what the CCD is designed for AFAIK. It works on dry, merely-dusty vehicles. Just go at the dew with a good waffleweave microfiber.

Will wiping down the dew scratch the paint? Being out all night I'd assume their is some dust mixed in with it. I can't tell for sure, all I know is that having a strawberry field next to school parking lot sucks because of all the dust in the air :(

The srawberry field is at school and not at home, or do you live on campus?

Either way, dust every night before the dew settles.

Once the dew settles onto the dust it starts to stick to the paint.

The strawberry field is at school, and the dust settles on the dew before it dries, I get to school very early, about 6:45 AM, so it's still wet out.

I tried to Waffle weave thing, and I don't know if I marred my spoiler or what, but all the other panels look fine. My spoiler looks like it has the equivalent to holograms now :( I'm going to see if I can polish them out tonight.

i dont know how you would have gotten holograms from a waffle weave. try blotting the area dry, not dragging the towel over it

They aren't holograms, but the look is similar, I don't know how to describe it. I don't think it was actually in the paint though. It cleaned right up with some PWC, so who knows.

You know, I've been thinking about this morning dew problem, but haven't done much about it because I never have time in the morning to do anything about it.

I would not just wipe it off with a towel or ww. That dew has got to be dirty and dusty....

The problem is lubrication. Something you can get from QD and car washes (both of which also emulsify dirt). If someone is feeling adventurous, they could try spraying their car with an even mist of QD or a slightly stronger QEW solution and then wiping it down. I bet that would allow you to safely wipe down the car (assuming it was clean the night before of course), but this is all just arm-waving theory until someone tries it and proves it "safe" though.
