Cadillac XLR - My little brothers first time with a polisher!

So I got my little brother working with me and since he's been around me a lot I figured i'd throw him right in the mix. Showed him how to wash, decon, and some beginner polishing with a flex 3401. I started on a customers car because it was a very forgiving color and it wasn't in bad shape. So I had him 1 step it with white CCS pad and SRC finishing polish. I love this combo it has a more cut than you would expect for a "finishing polish" and leaves an extremely high gloss finish. Right out the gate he was having trouble keeping the pad flat so I stood behind him with an air soft gun and shot him the rear every time the pad wasn't flat. By the end of the day I was outta pellets and he was keeping the pad flat :rofl. When he got done we inspected the car by doing an IPA wipedown and sealing it up with BFWD. Check it out!

I was busy watching the pad so much I forgot to tell him to put the cord over his shoulders as my Detail Buddies on FB pointed out so we fixed that.

This car has some sharp edges so just in case I made him tape edge lines before polishing. I forgot how much practice it took to get good at taping. Watching him was funny. It took him over an hour to tape the car up initially.

Not bad first time out. Car isn't perfect but we weren't going for that. We were going for what a refer to as a "Shine and Protect" type of detail.

Thanks for looking

Joe you are a cruel cruel man. I wonder if this "air soft" technique should be adopted at Mike Phillips Detailing Boot Camps :)

shoot him a couple extra times for not putting the cord over his shoulder! :rofl

It came out pretty good for his first time!

The best was the next day... He was like "I hate you! I can't sit down or feel my arms! How was I suppose to have "alone time" with numb arms and welts all over my rear???" He probably said something other than "alone time" but I'm keeping it forum friendly lol.

Way to go Joe! The car came out great!! :bigups

The airgun isn't a bad idea. It's a lot better than tossing someone off the dock into the water and hoping he can swim!! :lol2:

Wow.... That is cruel...But hey he has to learn right... I think I am going to try this on my brother too.

pain is weakness leaving the body, so suck it up and polish on. tell your brother he has the makings of a detail soldier. the car looks great.

purple colour?? wow that is i think a weird colour on that car. Sure its shiny but i dont like the colour of it
