i went to H-E-B yesterday to buy some shaving supplies. I purchased some Edge gel which cost about $2.60 which is a lot high than what it used to be which was about $1.75. then i go to look at the Gillette Sensor Excel razor.

I can buy the pckg with the handle and 3 razors for $8bucks or 4 refill cartridges for $7.75. I have like 4 gillette handles lying around the house but 8 bucks for freakin razors what gives.... it was like 2 months ago when the razors were like 5 bucks for the 4 cartridges but it seems like the prices are goin higher and higher. :hairpull

Ive tried my dads electric razor but it doesnt cut well enough through my beard cause now im growin facial hair like crazy.

And to think i was going to go all out and ge the Mach 3 i think that kit's like 15 bucks

rant over :angry :angry :angry

Have you thought of going with a double-edged safety razor?

I am probably going to switch over and once you bite the initial bullet, refills are cheap...

I have considered the old type razor, do you find its nicks and cuts more? I have never tried it.

The mach turbo is an awesome shave, with some pre shave oil and the right gel nothing comes close but its getting very expensive.

I tried EBay and found they sell a lot of counterfeit blades, you will know after the first shave. If you find a reputable seller though you get the real thing at a huge savings, near 50%

Condiser trying a quality electric like the Panasonic line. Mine is completely water immersible so you could shave in the shower and it cleans up just using warm water and soap. I don't shave in the shower but I do use the Mennen pre-shave electric gel to make my beard stand up. The pre-shave also helps the razor glide with much less irritation. You will have to give your face at least 30 days to adjust from switching from the blades, though.

You can buy the blades for the Mach 3, etc off Ebay really cheap. I bought like 90 blades there a while back for $40.00.

90 for $40??? Wow. I surfed for weeks on eBay and didn't see a price that good.

I did the same thing, though...But first, I asked around work, got a few commitments to take some off my hands. I ended up buying 240 mach 3 turbo blades for $271.20 ($1.13 each), shipped to my door. It was 30 8-packs.

I sold 160 @ $1.25 ($200.00), so I ended up with 80 blades for $71.20 (.88 each).

A little time, effort and resourcefulness paid off.

If you took those 80 blades and used 1/week, that would last you about a year and a half. But, when they're gone you'd have to start the whole "hunt for a bargain" Ebay process all over again. You may need to change them out even more often if you have sensitive skin or a very coarse beard.

You could have bought a very nice electric razor for roughly the same amount of money. My Panasonic is over 3 years old and I've just now replaced the foil/blade for ~ $40. Replacement razor blades are a consumer rip-off .

that looks nice but did you read the directions :nervous:

Throw away the free blade that comes with your razor. It's probably dull from constant movement inside the box.

Expect a few minor nicks and scrapes for the first few days

heres another :nervous: that just seems like you would literally cut your self like when Homer teaches bart how to shave..............

:LOLOL

I've spoke to James (the owner of Men Essentials) a couple of times. He is a very nice, honest, and helpful guy. Not to mention, he knows his stuff. The articles on that site are also excellent. I feel his warnings are to about Autopian standards. Its kind of like getting a PC. Most seasoned members say chuck away the polishing pad that comes with it since its nothing special. You will always need practice before you get good :).

LMK when you get one if you order one cause id like to get your opinion on it. $60 bucks does seem like a lot but i go through razors like crazy cause i like that fresh clean look ALL the time. im guessing the refills are just regular razors?

I haven's used a dual-edge razor. But, based upon the advice I read on Men Essential's forum, I tried the BIC disposible single-blade razors. I get ingrown hairs very, very easily. I thought that would help. The single blade for me didn't work out. Until recently I've been using a shaving brush with creams designed for a brush (men-u or amentiy). After quite some time, I switched back to the Mach 3, this time I got the "electric" version and switched to Jack Black beard lube without a brush. It's been working great for a couple of months now.

As GSRstilez said, Men Essentials is a top-notch site.
