Buying my first polisher, I have a few questions

For the past 2 years I have been detailing my car (2000 Integra GS-R) with an orbital buffer. I am fairly pleased with the results but I know it could be better. So, I have decided to take the next step and purchase a PC. I was wondering what a good model would be for me to purchase and what types of pads I should buy and what different jobs I should use them for? Also, I will be detailing 3 different cars that I know of right now whereas 2 have minor swirl marks and the other has medium swirls. Any product reccomendations will be greatly appreciated (I have meguiars #2 swirl remover if that would work?).

Oh yeah, here's a pic of my car (it's also a lot lower now with now wheel gap):

The main PC everyone talks about around here is the 7336sp, it can be picked up at your local Lowes for around $109.00. As far as pads go, you can get the pad kit from CMA, comes with the velcro backing plate, and an assortment of different pads.

Thanks:up , do you know which swirl remover works good? I have heard good things about 3m's swirl remover but I want to hear what everyone else thinks.:up

Meguiars #9 and 3M-SMR should both do the trick if they aren't major swirls....I know that you really need to work the 3M SMR in for quite a while so it breaks down properly and polishes, if you stop too quick and buff off it will give you a hazy finish. I'm not real sure if that applies to the #9 too...I don't know if it has a diminishing abrasives like the 3M does.

Try them both, see what works best for you.

The #9 also has diminishing abrasives. But in my experience, the 3M SMR is a bit more aggressive and will be more effective for swirl removal. #9 is more suitable for hand application.

I think you may find some of your answers about diminishing abrasives in my post here describing my first PC use.

I believe that you will find the PC different than using an orbital, but I am sure that you will like the results.

Make sure that you do searches on pads and pc use...there's been a lot of information traded recently (as well as over the last year)...as the moderators like to say "Search is your friend!!"

My boss drove his red F-150 through a corn field one time and it had scraches all down the sides. He applied #9 by HAND and you can't even tell now. But since you have a PC I would go with SMR...you can get even better results (if used properly) and you'll be left with a really nice shine. If your swirls aren't that bad, you can go w/ the less aggressive #9, but I don't think you can go wrong w/ SMR. You did say one car had medium swirls...so I would get SMR and maybe even a bottle of PIRC Fine Cut or FI-II.

Hey jim...don't take this the wrong way or anything...but I've noticed that you usually tell people to search. I mean, I agree and all, but it doesn't hurt to answer questions even if they've been asked before. Maybe some people searched but couldn't find satisfactory results or their question was slightly different. I'm not trying to be rude or anything, I think people could search a little bit more too, but if you don't have any answers to the questions, leave the, "Search Is Your Friend!" to the mods :xyxthumbs

I have to agree...and i wasn't gonna say anything...But since it's been touched on, I'll just say I agree.... I think most people know to search, but often times questions are different, and it can also get tiring to look through thousands of search results when it's a quick answer to a specific question. :nixweiss

What do i know though....
