Buying big boxes

I am moving back to FL end of June, and for my big furniture I am going to be using shipping services. One place gave me a great quote and their reputation checks out well too. But I would have to box all my stuff included my couch. I asked the rep how the heck do I box a couch and they said get a applicance box.... The second shipper will pack and box everything and the price difference is $350.00. As of now that $350 doesnt seem too bad.

So my questions is does anyone know a place to get boxes for a good price? So I can compare and see if its worth the hassle.

Boxing and packing materials -

Mail boxes etc/fedex/ups stores = OVERPRICED

Uhaul and (similar) = over priced

IMHO the $350 for them to pack the stuff makes a ton of sense.
First, cost of materials
Second, time/hassle
Third (most important) It makes them responsible for damage

Good luck w move - no fun

Something to be said for handing them the keys to one place and saying "I'll see you at the other place on (insert day here)"

Boxes and packing materials can add up quickly if you can even find what you need.
$350 sounds pretty reasonable to me to properly pack everything and avoid a lot of hassle.

ULine. They have THOUSANDS of different sizes of boxes. You could try a local furniture/appliance retailer also. They might have some that housed floor items?

How about getting a PODS container, packing it up yourself, with or without boxes, etc., and have them deliver the Container to your new Driveway and you unload at your leisure, and they come pick up the empty when done?

They can quote you when you tell them from where to where..

Good luck, I have moving, its never fun, especially if you are doing alone..

Yea did I say $350 extra..... Try almost $800 extra:wall. So I call back to get everything reserved and tell them I have about 400 lbs of furniture and then the rep realized the nearest center is 150 miles away from me.

So they have to drive from OH to WV and that surcharge was not given to me earlier.....

glad you're making the big move dhaval. there's just something about a fl. flatlander living in w.v. in the winter. :D

Lol it's going to be good to be back. I will miss the cost of living in Wv :(

Gonna scope them out during the weekends. Thanks.

So living in WV I don't have many choices. Pod doesn't have a outlet here or delivery service.
But uhual now has something similar and got a quote of $2k from them.

When I moved to WV my firm gave me a relo package and the movers came to my apartment and packed all my stuff and moved it to WV. It was a awesome experience, but when I saw the final tab they charge my company it was close to 11k!!

This time I am not getting a relo package due to cost cutting at the firm.....

Suddenly $800 doesn't seem so bad lol

I would have them package and ship. If they package and box everything, they will have more interest in not breaking the items. If you package them and they just handle the boxes, they can always point to you when there is a broken item, for not "packing" them properly. Less work and liability on your side, more responsibility on their side--pay the extra $$.

Good luck with your move. I'm in the process of getting our home sold here in Mississippi to move back to the Tri-State area (MD, PA, WV). I know how difficult it is to go that far, although were doing it ourselves. Not too keen on driving the 26' moving truck 950 miles, but oh well  I work at a building supply and hardware company and have been hoarding boxes for months in the back storage room.

Sell everything (except detailing supplies) and travel light. If you are married, your wife will want new furniture to go with her new home, anyhow.
