business add-on idea?

In the last few days, I got a flyer from a company that does "on-site" oil changes. That is, they come to your home or office to do your oil/filter change. This has some appeal to me, 'cause I just HATE taking time off work to take my car in for an oil change.

It got me to wondering ... would that be a worthwhile add-on for any of you pro detailers? I can imagine there may be legal/environmental issues about it ... just thought I'd throw this out here in case it's worth consideration.

I've heard about that but the liability issues could be pretty big. Imagine cross threading an oil drain plug on a Lamborghini and having it fall out. Oops!

Don't know if it's the same in other cars but in my Volvo, the filter also must be changed together with the oil, and the filter element cap is made of some kind of plastic that breaks if you don't use Volvo's tool for that propose. Too bad if the mobile oil changer must have one specific tool for every brand

But as Lynn said, very useful on regulars ;)

I was approached by such an outfit 2 weeks ago. They are in my complex (at Enterprise) Rental 3 or 4 days a week.

I'm giving it serious thought. I won't make much (maybe $10), but it should be perceived as a convenience to my clients.

Will have to spend some time deciding upon a quick and efficient manner in which to make my clients aware.

I'd have the same concerns about liability. Hey it's enough to have to be careful with the rest of the car.

It is however a great marketing concept. Anytime you make it easy for your customer that's always a good thing.

Thanks for the info Lynn...

I've thought about adding that kind of service on to my menu, especially when experiencing a few years ago being serviced by a "lube on wheels" company. But, I definitely wouldn't want to take on the risk.

One of my customers payed me $40 to drive his wife's S600 down to Discount Tire and have a leak repaired. Not bad for 45 minutes of my time and getting to drive the S600. ;)
