We've had spot showers most every day this week (only when I'm on the road), so I had to wash the car for the 9999999'th time this evening.
During the pre-rinse, I spotted a moderate scuff on my front bumper. I take the train to work each day -and try to park in BFE, but you see folks banging brief cases on cars just about every day. Today was my turn.
Unfortunately the pictures don't show 'how bad' it actually looked. My wife ran and hid after I showed her, because she knows that this sh** puts me in a mood.
After I washed/dried the car, I thought this one might need touch up paint in a few spots.
As it turns out, -looks were deceiving.
Process Used:
I washed with SS&S.
I mixed Poorboys APC/water (15:1) and clayed using Poorboys clay x 3. This erased 99% of the scuff.
Next I polished the top of my bumper with Blackfire using a finishing polish & LC finishing pad (PC @ 5)
1 pass cleaned up the minor clay marring. Then I sealed it, and that was that. It took about 30 min.
Sure this is a trivial post.
The reason I'm sharing is because it's VERY tempting to break out the nuclear arms (compound or stronger) and 'go to town'.
It took A LONG time for the message 'start out with the least aggressive product, and work up' to sink in for me, so hopefully some of the new guys on DC will see this as proof.
Before: (Guys, realize that anything showing up on Silver metallic in so so lighing isn't nearly as dramatic as what you see in full sun).
After Clay & Polish:
