Bumper repair suggestions/help

Well, my girlfriend drives a 1999 Honda Accord. She backed into a brick wall and really scratched up her paint. The scratches went down to the black plastic. She asked if i wanted to try to fix it for her. Otherwise they are just going to leave it. I know that it is going to take a lot of time and patience to get it right. Also, i am not expecting to make it perfect, just better. Here is what i was planning to do.

Fill the deep scratches with a filler. Then sand down the paint and a bit of the surrounding area so that i can help blend it in when i repaint it. After sanding it smooth, put on several layers of primer with sanding included. Follow this up with several layers of basecoat and then the 2-3 coats of clearcoat over top. I will be wetsanding inbetween the coats if there are any runs or its unsmooth.

If anyone has any suggestions or help, i would greatly appreciate it. I think this could be a great learning opportunity for me.

you may want to use an airbrush to lay down the paint and blend it in better than a brush or pen as silver is a hard color to match.

also for your last coat of paint you can mix a blend of 50/50 silver and clear paint to get some gloss.

wish you well.

When I fixed my bumper on my Volvo C70 I had factory touch up paint. It was the little stick that had a brush and all. I masked off each scratch to make sure I didnt get any paint on non scratched areas. I then just started laying on paint and would let it dry. then after the correct amount of layers had been done I threw some clear on there.

You might want to try some filler or sometype as those scratches look very deep

Just my take....leave it. Unless you really want the challenge, and are prepared for a lot of work with negligiable results. When she's ready to sell the car - or otherwise invest a coupla' hundred dollars - work with one of the mobile paint pros out there who can prep, fill, and paint in a few hours.
