Bug & Tar remover left on black plastics

Hi folks,

Like an absolute muppet, I managed to spray (and leave on) Meguiars bug & tar remover on some external black plastic (it's matt-coloured trim under the air intake grill). It's now stained white and I have not managed to remove the stains as yet.

Does anyone have advice for removing these stains?

Can try a black trim conditioner (helped me some, I used Mothers Back to black) or you might have to get a dye kit like Forever Black.

What actually happened? Is this trim painted and the product removed the paint? Have you tried anything yet? Washing? I don't know if that Meg's product is any different in OZ than here, but up here it's a solvent/detergent mix (I think) and I'm having a hard time envisioning how it would damage black plastic in that way unless it's paint or unless it's just evaporated product that needs to be redissolved perhaps by washing or perhaps by something like IPA or mineral spirits.

No it's not painted plastic - just matt black plastic trim that has a mottled texture. I washed the car afterwards and it didn't come off, and also used Meg's cloth & trim cleaner which also didn't remove it. On other shiny surfaces, it was able to be rubbed off with effort but the black plastic area is textured.

I'll try some alcohol and see how I go.
