Buffing wax with a MF - Good or bad?

I have heard that a microfiber towel can make a mess of a waxed finish. Is this true?

I know they work great for cleaning windows and wiping off grease.

I hear all this talk in here about how great they are for buffing, but if the MF is able to grab grease or anything in it's path, wouldn't it also take the wax off?

Are these people referring to buffing off a polish / paint cleaner?

Some vendors claim that MF will "pull wax off the car", but *IMO* this is just a line...a way to sell you something else "just for wax removal". I've used both plush and "suede style" MFs to remove wax, and I've never had a problem with my towel of choice taking the wax off or doing anything else untoward. MFs don't clean THAT well ;) This is one of those "don't worrry about it" issues, but again, that's just IMO. I use various MFs for virtually everything, unless I'm doing something that definitely calls for cotton (and that's not very common these days).

I second Accumulator...I don't think anything cotton (other than my clothing) has ever touched my paint. It's either been mf or foam. Even my PC bonnets are mf. One of the other wonderful qualities of mf is that most all stains come out with a wash.

I just finished this Pontiac......all hand polished & then used mf to buff off S100.....I always use mfs with carnaubas.

Just found this at Top Of The Line web site.

"Suede Microfiber Towel

Suede Microfiber Towel: Terry Microfiber is designed to adhere to a surface. It literally clings to grease and film, taking it off in a single swipe. While this is desirable for most surfaces, it is a disaster for a waxed finish. The plush terry microfiber cannot distinguish between a layer of expensive Carnauba wax and common greasy film.

Micro-Suede Microfiber is very different. It glides across the surface, with a natural polish-like friction, that requires no effort. This unique trait makes Micro-Suede Microfiber one of the finest polishing materials in the world.

Our 16" x 16" silky-suede, polishing cloth has no equal for buffing all types of wax. Paste waxes, liquid waxes and polymer sealants are polished to a shine that rivals fine silver. The silky-smooth suede will maintain the shine on your aluminum wheels, brass beds, motorcycle chrome, or fine jewelry. No polishing cloth has ever matched its versatility, durability or pure pleasure to use.

Our Microfiber towels are a man made fiber 100 times finer than human hair, and 10 times finer than silk. The fiber is split, creating a super absorbency (7-10 times its own weight) and the ultimate in cleaning properties.

Micro-Suede Microfiber (80% polyester and 20% polyamide) is the finest weave of all. With over 95,000 fibers per square inch, it is softer and finer than any other Microfiber or conventional cloth available today. It is especially effective for polishing jewelry, china and stemware.

carzzz- Yeah, that's the ad I thought you were referring to. I have those, and they work well (I use them in bonnet form on the Cyclo). But you can buff off wax with "regular" MFs, too. Just did in on Accumulatorette's A8.

Much as I like Irene at TOL, that's just an advertising spiel to sell a product.

Wow, I can hardly believe what I'm hearing. A recommendation that "regular" microfiber towels are a "disaster" to use for buffing wax? Good grief. Just when you think you've heard it all.

Personally, I could not disagree more. Terry microfiber is fantastic for buffing off carnauba wax, sealants, quick detail sprays, etc.

I do happen to have some of of the suede microfiber towels that are mentioned, and they do serve a purpose. I really like them for applying 303 to the interior as they provide a smooth, even application.

The use of suede microfiber on the finish actually scares me....there is no nap to the towel. If you happen to pick up a tiny piece of grit with a suede microfiber there is no place for it to go but against the paint.

Don't believe everything you hear.....

I've used and currently use both the terry mf and the suede surface mf. Can't tell much differnece in performace re removing product.

I've been using the DF towel and it just might be better than mf. Maybe. More time will tell but the DF is sure soft and nice.
