Buffing around raised edges?

I am thinking of getting a PC sometime this summer and was wondering about the methods people use to buff around molding, raised sections of the hood, etc. Are there any special techniques one would use in hard to reach areas or areas where the edge of the buffer will run into the side of a raised panel? For instance, the center 2 feet of my hood is higher than the fenders. There's a cove shaped rise that is fairly abrupt. Do I leave it alone and buff these areas by hand or do I work the pc into them with the edge of the pad?

I find that the shape of the pad makes a big difference when dealing with raised edges. Pads with beveled or curved edges will allow you to easily transition over bumps and creases.
 
What are the best pads in your mind? Do you prefer one brand over another. I am about to purchase for the first time and would love some input. Thanks

There are lots of good pads out there to choose from. For the raised edge issues mentioned above, I tend to favor something like the Lake Country Curved Edge pads (sometimes referred to as "Advanced" pads).
 
I use the curved edge LC pads. I'm not experienced and have a aftermarket hood with a cowl induction scoop that stands higher than the edges of the hood. I haven't hurt it yet with the PC and it would, I think, take a lot to hurt it with the PC.
