Budget Garage Cabinet Solution...

I found a great set of shelves at Ikea which I assembled over lunch today. They are called Magiker shelves and are meant to be indoor but they have several nice features for a garage...they are raised on adjustable feet, available in cherry finish, are 15.75" deep, and are quite durable and sturdy. Each of the 3 units costs just $60 plus another $30 for each pair of doors. In total I got a lot of quality space for under $200 and I think it looks good also. I decided against white/birch since I think darker colors will hides spills & stains better. For another $100 you can add 6 drawers into the cabinets which I may do later for detailing tools and brushes...

Here are some shots, plus my newly freed up workbench with microfiber:

I wanted to do three sets of doors but Ikea had only one set in stock.

A bit of work but I am pleased how it all turned out. :)

How's your lighting in there?

:D Timely question. I am about to purchase two overhead lights from Lowes, one for each bay. I already have the structure & electrical up for holding them. I have decent but not great light now from the Genie garage openers and two small ceiling lights but not enough for quality detailing night work.

I may add some overhead cabinets in later in the same style but this covers up most of my collection. I weeded out some older products for the basement today. I will also move the corner holder of rakes down to the basement and eventually get a tool tower for holding my tools and brushes if I don't do the drawer option. I'm also going to be adding some classic framed car photographs. I'm having trouble finding a garage stool of high quality in a color I like.

That is way too organized. lol I've got stuff strewn all over the garage. I do have some sort of system though. I have all my degreasers, soaps, glass cleaners and stuff like that in the cabinet by the garage door. the rest of the waxes and polishes are at the back of the garage. I figure I don't need the waxes when the car is in the driveway nor do I need a degreaser when the car is pulled in. Every so often I get everything all cleaned up and organized, but it doesn't last long. Good luck in keeping it all organized. My wife would definitely be impressed. It is very clean.

Looks great Lee, I really admire and hope to one day have a garage setup just like yours. :bow

Have fun keeping it tidy, I know I would. :D

It is an excellent looking storage unit for such a nice collection of products. In fact what little i see of your garage it appears to be an excellent example of what a garge can and should look like.

someday our garage will become organized. I am having a good effect on my wife but it is slow. I keep my corner clean and organized. just waiting for the wife to get up and sift thru old boxes that are only there because she does not want to get rid of old memories.

WOW!! That is a very nice setup and the garage looks spectacular way to clean for a garage. I have been thinking about the conatiners for MF and PC Pads can you tell me where you got those and approx. what size they are?

Thanks,
Richard

Very nice setup Lee.
I jealous of that garage
I love the towel bar too, my wife yells when I put my towels over the kitchen chairs

Nice! I've got a couple similar cabinets, but those look to be much better constructed. And I agree, way too organized! I'm like jngr that I have stuff all over the garage; I know it's a detriment sometimes when I need to find something, but it works :o

I have some plastic shelves I purchased at target. They go pretty high and allows me to use less space in the garage. I also hammered a few nails on the wall to hold some of my products and used a bike rack that was already on the wall to hold my leaf blower and small vac. If u look you can also see the two 3-drawer plastic-ware I also purchased at target. On the left of the shelves I have a wooden microwave cabinet my parents were gonna throw away from the office.

joyride nice setup and the beemer is beautiful.

Thanks. Before those shelves I had to put all the products in my room, because I didn't feel comfortable leaving them scattered on the floor. Can u imagine the trouble I went through having to reach for a product in the middle of a detail.

bimmer* beemers are BMW bikes.

I tried the nice and tidy thing but it didnt last. I try and keep my wax, polish, sealants etc together. You will have to wipe the bottles clean after each use or they will drip and ruin the wood finish. I have a couple 3 tier plastic commercial shelving units i keep my products on.I have a problem with space & drawers for my MFs.

I actually have a old Raybestos Brake Cabinet that i currently use along with some old wood drawers but that is hopefully all going to chage this weekend. I am hoping to build some nice shelves this weekend. I will post before and after pictures if I can ever figure out how to post a picture here.

Target has some great stuff as well. I probably would have gotten something there but I wanted a darker color than my local store had in stock.

I will post before and after pictures if I can ever figure out how to post a picture here.

Cool. Please do.
