This black Lexus IS 250 was recently purchased and the owner had some issues with the swirls the previous owner had put on the car. The dealership attempted to make it look better by waxing, but even with the “Hideawax”, the damage could be easily seen outdoors. The culprit was likely a local wash and swirl.
Lexus has Japanese hard paint, which equates to very soft paint. The was also a front end re spray along with the roof, which made things a little more interesting. It had been scheduled for a single step polish to take out some of the swirls and scratches, however I did crack out some compounding in certain area as I knew polishing wasn’t going to do enough.
I chose the DA today, to try and remove as many as the defects as possible with one or two passes. The hood and a few other beat up areas saw a round of compounding before polishing.
The process:
Presoaked with APC 4 to 1
Washed with Werkstat Auto Body Wash using 2BM and Uber Sponge
Scrubbed the decals with a RG brush
Wheels were cleaned with AM Magnificent and Iron X on some of the tough spots
Tires spray with AG CWC and scrubbed
Polished with UCCL and DA polisher
Compound areas with Malco True Griot (UCC) and a rotary on a wool pad
Dressed tires with Solvent Free, Silicone Free Dressing
Applied Werstat Prime Strong with a coat of AJT following Prime
Before Shots:
Brought it inside and the lights show how bad it really was
After a little finessing
The other side of the car
After some more finessing
Outside in the sunshine
That’s about it, thanks for looking
