Brinkmann Inspection Spotlight

I've searched the archives & other sources & I have the following questions...

I just bought a 2001 Toyota Tacoma Pickup with a Pearlescent Blank finish. On further inspection what I thought was just topical water spot stains has turned out to be pretty heavily etched stains. I've taken a small section and removed the minerals with vinegar (straight up!) and the etched areas are very obvious. I've tried Meguiar's Scratch-X and Meguiar's Clearcoat Body Scrub to no avail.

I have ordered the 3M FinesseIT-II, and 3M SMR for Dark Finishes, and Mirror Glaze® Fine-Cut Cleaner #2.

My plans are to start with Finesse and see if that removes the etching, if not, then SMR, and the finally try the Fine Cut compound as a last resort.

Are there any other steps or products that I may be missing? Any tips?

The truck was manufactured in June of '01, so the paint job is roughly 7 months old. I live in west-Central florida, so the water and heat may have taken their toll. Any help would be great.

Thanks

Welcome to the Forum and I think you have come to the right place to get your answers.

I would start with the mildest (SMR) first and see how that gets ya. Then work your way towards more abrasive.

Do you have a Random Orbital buffer? It will save your arms from falling off.

Thanks for the quick reply. So the SMR is less abrasive than Finesse? Is it this order?...

SMR, Finesse, and then the Fine cut in order of less abrasiveness.

I'm going to Lowe's at lunch to see if I can get a PC Buffer/sander for cheap!

Thanks again

search on here for the Porter Cable. Lowes has one for around 119 I think number 7363 or something like that. A lot here have that then buy the kit from CMA.

SMR is a very mild abrasive with fillers. SO the fillers will not last long. Most remove them with a good dawn wash or someother method before applying a Polymer sealant.

I think CarGuy on here had a great step by step process he did on a friends Ferrari. Search for that.

I've tried roughly what you're planning with only little sucess. The paint looked great, etc. but when you look closely that water spots are still everywhere. From what I understand water spots like this go quite deep. (I'm no expert). Let us know if you have success and I'll try your method.

I am a serious weekend warrior! I am considering buying a Brinkmann
Maxfire Dual Xenon Spotlight from PAC. It's basically a spotlight to inspect your work. Anybody use this? I would like to hear of your experiences or thoughts on if you would consider buying one.

I have one and use it. My wife steals it all the time though. It is well built and recharges so thats very nice as well.

I use mine on every vehicle I detail. Best 30-dollar investment you can make to reveal paint defects. It's also nice to have one around if a thunderstorm knocks out your lights! Very bright and the battery holds a long charge.

Ditto to the above, I use mine all the time.

Has anybody used the new dual head LED version?

I was going to get it when it came out. It was on sale and was in my cart (different site) When I went to buy it the sale had ended. This prompted me to go check out some LED "head" lights on Amazon. The one I got is awesome, lifetime warranty, and I got it for a better price. That being said I love my regular Brinkman and assume the Brinkman LED is of the same quality.

Thanks CEE DOG, I guess I'm most curious as to how it compares to the Fenix LED flashlights. I'll probably get one eventually, just was wondering what others have though about it.

Do you have a link to the light you bought?

Brinkman

I would be up for one if we get a group buy together? I have been looking a regular LED flashlights and they are not cheaper.

I guess sonce its only for my cars I question the recharagable aspect of it. I just hope that when I need it, that it will be charged?:cursing:
