Sounds like the battery needs to be replaced - could be a cheaper option if you don`t want to buy another light.
Battery looks similar to those used in deer feeders, etc., so should be relatively easy to find.
Would post a link to a "how to", but on a competitor site... google should bring it up first couple of links.

Those were the standard detailing swirl finders years ago.
Do yourself a favor and get one of these.
Fenix PD35 LED Flashlight - 960 Lumens - Fenix-Store
Not only is it the best flashlight I have ever owned in my life. Period. It blows away the Brinkmann for detailing. Make sure you go w the rechargeable High-Capacity 18650 Battery(3500mAh).

I have a blue/white swirl finder I bought years ago. Dropped it once and it blew one of the bulbs. Quit using it once I discovered LED lights. Fenix are great lights. I also like Nitecore and Zebralights. Anything 18650 is awesome. Nitecore makes a great charger that I use for my 18650`s.

I`ll second the thoughts about Nitecore and Fenix. Great lights. I have the Nitecore MH-12 (basically-ish Nitecore`s version of the PD-35), and I love it.
18650 LED lights are very versatile, from finding swirls to lighting up night time like its daylight.
Amazon normally has some good deals, and you can always check out the reviews on Candlepower forums (Autopia for flashlights).

A Miracle Detailing
I FINALLY found a real replacement for my Brinkman.
I recently purchased a Scangrip Sunmatch and I am VERYhappy with the results. See -> 2017 Porsche 718 Cayman
I too had a Brinkman. After it stopped working I have been at a loss for a hand held swirl finder that really works.
And yes, I have used a few (some kinda pricey) flashlight/penlights. I am happy with the SCANGRIP Sunmatch.

Now if you want to go for the big dog on the porch...I just purchased the Scangrip Multimatch.
It is bigger than a Sunmatch. It can be used handheld. It can be plugged in or run on its internal battery.

No experience with the Duracell 700. Looking at the online reviews and such, it gets good praise for being a durable inexpensive flashlight. 700 lumens is pretty good.
It has a High/Low output selection, which might help in playing with different light intensities inspecting for defects. The focusable beam is pretty neat as well.
Downside is it doesn`t appear to take rechargable batteries... not that big a deal if you have a number of spares available.
