Brand New Tundra Double Cab 4x4 first detail ?'s

Alright, so I've searched and searched and cannot seem to find the definitive answer to my questions - do I need to polish my brand new black Tundra that doesn't need clay and has ZERO swirl marks?



Initially I thought of doing a quick and light polish with 3M SMR (I know it says SMR and has fillers, but its the lightest polish I have) and finishing with #16, but have been reading that no polishing is necessary on a new vehicle if there is no paint correction to be done. Anyone have some advice? Should I use a paint cleaner and go to #16? Mind you, I am a seasoned PC user.



I don't know, I just kind of feel funny not applying ANY sort of light polish/cleaner before putting a wax on because of course, as we all know, its all in the prep work.

I would clay anyways. you always pick up something! If you have absolutly no swirls then you could just go right to wax. OR if you want to polish it you can always hit it with a non abrasive pure polish and the follow up with #16.

If the paint is really clean and swirl free, you should be able to go right to wax.. I'd still personally hit it with AIO or something similar though.

Just do a clay/#16 for the time being. Be sure to do all the chrome/glass/paint with it also

Thanks - I love the Enkei's too :up . Had to fly to Raleigh and drive it back to MA since I can't get the X-SP in the Northeast, but it was well worth it - got it at Fred Anderson Toyota.



I am afraid that by claying I will cause marring, since its happened before. Of course then it didn't matter because I was doing paint correction after anyways. I just don't want to f up a swirl free truck but at the same time think I want to do a real light polish.



Sneek - what do you suggest for a pure polish? I chose SMR because its the least aggressive polish I have. In fact its so mild, I never use it anymore but it seems to be a good choice for this particular application.



edit: what about a cleaner wax, topped with #16?
 
Definitely clay it, as I have picked up stuff, on brand new cars even when it feels good prior to the claying. After the claying hit it up with a light polish to remove any marring that may have appeared, due to the clay. I have, on brand new cars, done super careful claying, then aio, and sealant.

I jut got a new Lexus ES350. I did the "bag test" and the paint felt fine, and it was also free of swirls. So I didn't clay.



I washed it and applied a coat of NXT paste wax followed by a coat of #26, then a coat of Zaino Z-6.



I couldn't be more pleased with the shine, here are a few photos. It's Starfire Pearl which is a pearl white color and I intentionally underexposed the photos so the shine would show up in them. The last photo shows more of what the color is actually like.

Sardian - I ended up doing something similar to you: I decided to do only spot polishing where needed and to the rest of the truck I applied NXT, topped with #16. I am glad I did this the truck really was smooth and swirl free.



Will post pics tomorrow.
