Brand new 7424 Making odd noise...

... around the counterweight area I hear a pretty loud metal-on-metal clank... get's faster as speed increses...



is this normal? should I tighten something up to fix it or just return it to the seller?

i just got mine too... it sounds like a dieseling engine

Exactly this happened to me. Does it clank without the backing plate? You can put a washer between the plate and the nut to fix the problem if thats the case.

it came with what appeared to be a washer, i didnt put it in yet, i only turned it on for like 5s. ill RTFM sometime this week thanks though.

I'm going to venture a guess and say the noise is normal. When I received my 7424, I thought something was horribly wrong with the mechanism.





So I removed the backing plate, just to rule that out and it sounded the same.



After looking around and playing a few polishing vids utilizing the 7424, I came the conclusion that is normal sound I am hearing.



It is just a very loud machine.

Did you turn it on in air? If yes it will bang like crazy because that is not how it is supposed to be run.

Yeah mine sound just like that too. Like there something wrong with the armature

Mine makes a 1980's movie robot "whirring" noise. No "clacking" or metal on metal sound.
