BP Suggestions for 5.25" pads

I'm having trouble figuing out what is the best BP to use for 5.25" pads.

AG has a 4 7/8" but that seems too big (< 1/4" overhang).

I've seen a 4" BP at DD but that seems too small (5/8" over hang).

From what I'm heard it's ideal to have ~ 1/2" overhang so I guess 5/8" is close enough.

So go with the 4" BP or is there a BP out there between 4 and 4 7/8" that I'm not finding?

I saw the prized 3M BP on DD but after searching around it looks to be 5".

Also what do you guys suggest for 6.5" pads? I'd like to be able to use my Flex 3401 pads on my rotary as well. I heard the Megs W64 is good? Or are the Meg's W's too big?

TIA

Get a 3.5" BP (that gives you an inch all around for 5.5's) and you could accommodate 4" , 5.5" and even 6.5" pads I imagine.

Off topic but does anyone have the part # for the 3m backing plate thats cost like 50 bux.??
09553, and it is a very, very, nice BP:

3M 09553 Perfect-it Backing Plate (Limited Qty)

These are so expensive because the vendors have them shipped over from the UK.

I have talked to 3M reps here in the states and they can not get that 5" BP

They did say 3M was considering selling the smaller BP's and pads here in the states but it wouldn't happen for awhile (if it happens at all).

So Eliot do you use that 5" 3M one for 5.25" pads? 1/8" overhang doesn't leave much room for error.

I don't think it's that big of a deal but others here seem to shy away from it.

I've used a pad on my flex that was exactly the same size of the BP and I didn't really have an issue with it so I don't see what the big deal is...

Yes, I've used both the 5" 3M BP and the 5" BP on my UDM with 5.25" pads with no problems. You just need to be aware that you don't have as much cushion but I actually like using 5.25" pads on a 5" BP.
