Bought a Dyson Vac

Tex Star Detail

Formerly TexasTB
I bought a nice Dirt Devil vac about a year to a year and a half ago. The upright kind with the cartridge filter in it. Them filters ran 20 bucks a piece, and I was finding myself having to change them twice a year. I cleaned tham out good, but they still sucked, well, sucked in a bad way..... I had to replace the belt NUMEROUS times, and had to order a new roller brush...had to wait over a month because they were on back order.
Lately, the vac hasn't been sucking anything up really. Cleaned filter, new belt, new roller brush, etc.....even checked all the hoses for clogs....none...

Went out to look at cheap vacs to buy. Wife wanted a canister type. The kind that roll on the floor. We priceda cheap one at $175, Kenmore brand. Getting ready to pick it up when I spotted the Dyson Vacs.....lol

Looked at a few models, had the salesman, a good one at that, do a few demos, and I was blown away.......:bigups
The suction on those things are UNREAL. I shampoo'd my carpets about a month ago, if that.....twice. I came home and vac'd one room GOOD with my old vac, and then went over it once with the Dyson....
All I had to say was...."OMG!!!!!!!!!!! All that was in the carpet" My Wife was impressed as well.
We bought the DC14 model

Picked it up from Sears...ran a little over $400...And well worth every penny IMHO....
5 year warranty too...
I would say, if Dyson made a shop vac, I would buy it.

Just thought I'd share.....:bigups

I picked one up about 3 weeks ago and was amazed also. Before I bought it, I always thought "What kind of a moron would spend $400 on a vacuum?". I always laughed when I saw the price tag on those things. Then my crappy vacuum broke down and I was forced to buy a new one. I asked around at a few different places that didn't give commission to their employee's and everyone said to get a Dyson. One guy said that he's owned 7 of the vacuums they sold and they all were crap compared to the Dyson.

I finally broke down and got the base model for about $430. It's well worth it and then some. I will not suggest another brand ever again.

Although there are a lot of negative reviews to be found on these the folks that recently bought them seem to be a cheering fan club. Inspector 1, on several forums, loves his after a year of usage. He also said that after doing the number with the old vac followed immediately by the Dyson, he couldn't believe all the crap the Dyson picked up and the previous one left. High dollar but it seems to be worth it.

Where I live it's 85% Saltillo tile.....carpet only in the bedrooms. I doubt if I'll cough up for one based on that.

Yeah, I accidentally sucked up a sock with the hose when I was testing it out. I took the vacuum apart expecting to find it somewhere in the tubing. Right before I took off the last piece, I saw it sitting in the cannister. I was shocked and immediately convinced that it was a great purchase.

**Just to let everyone know, it takes less than two minutes to take apart the vacuum to see if anything is clogged in there, so it wasn't really an inconvenience.

I works great on tile too. The good thing about the Dyson is that it only has two floor settings. They are bare floor and carpet. The bare floor setting turns off the front brushes and just uses suction. The carpet setting turns the front brushes and is self adjusting to any carpet length.

I'd honestly be shocked to see any negative reviews for household use. I just can't imagine what the problem would be.

I too have the DC14, but mines the Animal. It has insane suction! The only down side is how bulky the thing is. :(

They have an attachment for floors, and let me tell you what....the suction makes it STICK to the floor. I tested it in the store, and it was hard to pull along the floor. It had 2 settings on the floor attachment, that was the tile setting, the other is the bare floor/vinyl setting, and it glides along on silky smooth felt, or something.....awesome....

Audi,
It is crazy how you can take it apart. You have that "P trap" tube at the bottom, and the other one..... I love it...

I told my kids to respect it and call it Mr. Dyson....lmao It's not a vac, it's a Dyson....lol

Bulky? I'd say it is about normal. Hell, with the suction it has, I wouldn't care if it was bigger...lol

The best part, IMO, is how Bissel turned his design down saying that bagless vacuums will never replace the ones with bags. Now Bissel is being sued for stealing Dysons design. Funny how that works isn't it.

hahahaha, I seen the knock off's they had in Sears. I asked the salesman about them and he said he won't sell it to me. Said he would not sell a vac that doesn't work well....

This conversation came up on one of the other forums a little while back. I commented on how well my wife had liked ours. I ended up receiving negative rep points for saying my wife liked her new vacuum. Go figure.:D

Good vacuum we would buy again in a heart beat.

Well, if you're going to have a wife, you might as well get appliances that she likes.

**DISCLAIMER**

I'm just kidding of course. Housework should be split down the middle as neither man nor woman is more equiped than the other one as far as cleaning abilities go.

OK, I went over 2 rooms with my old vac. picked up everything visable. Looked good to me. Then I went over the carpet with the Dyson...
Here is what it picked up......
(I was disgusted. I do not live like a slob, and the house is always clean. This was deep down in the carpet.)
Sorry for the poor quality pics.....

Yea I heard those things were good but I think most people are turned off by the price tag. THATS GROSS!!!!!! I cant belive that it picked up that much stuff AFTER another vacume. WOW.

LOL mine picked up much more. It's instant justification for a $650 CAD purchase.

Just remember to clean the blue filter thing every so often.

Sounds like a bunch of Dyson shills to me. :D

Hey just kidding. It was just too hard to pass that one up. :)

I have a friend that has one that he paid big bucks for and like Audiboy I thought "What kind of a moron would spend that much money on a vacuum?". I'll have to ask him about it. Nothing is too good for my wife when it comes to tools.
