I am uncertain where this fits in in terms of abraisiveness. the product listing is not found in the 3m on line site. it is 03900 is this more or less agressive then smr 039009?

Whatever it is, it's *MUCH* more aggressive than SMR. Not in the same league at all.

Sounds like you got some aggressive stuff, though the 3900 number doesn't ring a bell with me (I have a vague recollection...). Is it paste or liquid?

*I* wouldn't use it until I knew exactly what I had there. Actually, the only 3m RCs I'd use are the PI-II FCRC (39002) and, preferably, PI-III RC (05933). I sure wouldn't use the 3099 stuff without knowing more about it, some aggressive products can mar the finish in ways that you won't fix without a rotary.

3 m professional formula rubbing compd clear coat safe part number 03900

this product removes grade 1500 or finer sanding scratches

medioum condtion swirls or water marks and leaves a fine finish.

Heh heh, 3M *always* says ".. and leaves a fine finish" ;)

If it'll remove 1500 grit scratches I'd stand by my original opinion. Get something *much* milder, especially if you're working by hand. I could be wrong, but I sure wouldn't gamble on it if I were you.

I actualy want something a little heavier in my armentarium I just want to know how heavy. It is not for all over use I have smr and finnesse it II finishing and mostly do not use them at all as I really do not have a swirl problem. I also have a pc. The heavier cmpd is for the occasional light scratch put on by idiots touching my car( don't you just hate it) Actually I just got a new black Acura TL and my daughter put a light scracth in it as she wormed past it in the garage. I mostly have it out but black is a ***** ain't it. I have a local auto body supply place I'll just return the generic rubbing cmpd to wally world and get some rated stuff over there. It just seems funny that 3m does not even mention this stuff on their site.

I'd go with the PI-III RC (05933) followed by PI-III MG. Slight overlap with the SMR and FI-II you have now, but I like the PI-III stuff *much* better. Both products work well by hand (for isolated scratch fixes) and by PC.

The 3M 03900 is the Perfect-It II Fine Cut Rubbing Compound in the 8oz size. Same as the 3M 39002 in the 16oz size. I've used it and like it. But I finally broke down and bought the PI-III RC 05933 and like it even more. Took out all the swirls on my new (used) car.
