Paint Ph.D
I did this a few nights ago out of sheer boredom.
So much attention is paid to the finish of our cars that sometimes we overlook other parts of the car that get swirled and scuffed, as well. I am guilty of this. The rear fog lights on my Santa Fe are low to the ground (mounted on the bumper) so they gut the brunt of road dust and debris and usually just get wiped off in a wash. Because of this they were sporting a healthy quantity of swirls, haze from UV damage, and just generally looked poor. I tried to capture their haziness and lack of shine but the sun had gone down and I was forced to show you with the camera flash. It made the swirls show up just fine but really hid the nasty defects.
This will literally take five to ten minutes of your time and your taillights will look so much better. To do this I used an old Orange pad, one drop of Menz SIP and then run the buffer on speed 4.
These were swirled badly enough it took two passes on SIP and I decided to finish with some 106FF.
Because the lights are recessed, I simply removed them to gain better access. As you can see here, swirl city! :cooleek:
Keep in mind a little bit goes a LONG way with the SIP. This was one drop no larger than my pinkie nail. Spread it around and this is the result.
After finishing down, this was the result...MUCH better than before and the lens was back to a deep red.
Thanks for taking a look!
