Body / Graphics / Paint Fade Questions

I am interested in appying a decorative graphic to my 2004 SUV. The paint is in good condition.

Questions...What are the risks of paint fade around the decal? How long does it take for the paint to fade around the decal? And...how hard is it to take care of the fade part if the decal is removed?

Any experiences out there will help...

Thanks in advance.

As long as you keep the paint wax or sealed around the decal, you shouldn't have to worry about paint fade.

This has not been my experience with graphics. Even on meticulously maintained cars (assuming they're driven), paint fades. Ask the body shops why it's difficult to match the paint on a well maintained 4 year old car. It's not that the technology of putting together a factory color doesn't exist. If the decal is there for any length of time and then removed you will likely see its outline. It's a different story for magnetic decals that are on and off the car. They however introduce their own special set of problems.

I had vinyl decals on my van about 6 years ago. They were on for like 4 years and when i removed them there was an outline you can see. I even took care of the paint and kept it clean but still an outline. And you can see there was a slight fade.

Now the first year it was in the Arizona sun but I really kept up the van well. Then after that it was in N.Y. for the last 4 years.

They certainly do...I had a Pathfinder with a Magentic logo on the driver and passenger door, that was abour the size of the door, when the owner went to remove it from the car most of the backing stayed on the car, baked on....

Like gear head said, paint just fades. With as many coats of wax as my car has, if I park my murano next to a brand new one I can see the color difference. I am sure the Arizona sun, helped it along quite nicely.

Sorry about my own threadjack, but... I just bought a 04 Murano with the polished pewter paint. I have noticed some orangepeel on the doors. Does yours have any orangepeel? Also, How hard or soft is the clearcoat on yours. I haver read different spins on the Nissan paint. I plan to do some polishing and don'y want any damage. Thanks for your ionput.
