BMW X3 paint problem - Is Opti Coat 2 the solution?

My wife has a 2013 BMW X3. You know those small brown-ish spots you get on the car just from sitting outside....well if one of those sits there for a couple of days it dulls the paint. The only thing that fixes them is polish. Not good. The car has a good coat of Megs NXT on it and I use Megs symthetic spray wax each time a wash it (generally every couple of weeks).

I'm thinking that Opti Coat 2 might be a solution...What do you guys think?

I think you need to do a bit more research about opt-coat pros and cons to get a better understanding of the product. In essence, think of opti-coat as a permanent sealant/wax and will stay that way on your paint when applied correctly.

Do you get the brown spots after washing and waxing? Are they rust? If not it could be rail dust. Assume you get the brown spots periodically, and you have applied opti-coat over your paint. It will prevent the brown spots from sticking as much as it did before and it will clean off much easier. If its rust.. and you cannot sand it off, you may have to consider repainting your car

Hey Bob, Do you have any pics of the spots you're referring to? We would really have to know what they are and where they are coming from. :)

Hey Chad,

Great to see you here. You have always been very helpful over on Meguiars Online. We have conversed a few times over there.

These spots are not rust. They have a wax like texture to them. Kind of like the bee droppings you get. Her X3 sits outside at work all day, so it is exposed to the elements. The spots are small, like 1/4 inch. When I wash them off, the paint is dull. Washing does not fix it, clay does not either.

Chad, I saw your video on how to apply Opti Coat...seems pretty straight forward.

Kouyo-I have not yet applied Opti Coat. I am hoping that Opti Coat will prevent these spots from dulling the paint in the long run. The car is only a few months old and I want to get this issue fixed as we are planning to have this vehicle a long time.

Yep, I remember you well, Bob. :)

I was thinking it was possibly bee droppings based on your description, but I can't say that I've ever had to deal with it...not knowingly that is.

I do think OC will be much more resistant to whatever it is and it should keep it from staining the paint....seems to work very well against bird poo. The key thing is that you can hit it with chemical cleaners and it won't strip off like waxes and sealants. ;)

It will not prevent rust blooms, but clearly that is not what you're dealing with anyway.

Cheers,

Rasky

You are not going to beleive me but they are insect feces. The sun makes the stains fade in very short order. Opti-Coat it and these stains will not persist....the feces will, but they will not stain.

You post is quite timely. I was looking at the hood this weekend....the old spots are gone and there are a couple of new one. Opti Coat it is.
