Been a while since I did full write-ups, took advantage of the cold weather and went through two months of pictures, ended up with 157 so I'll post them up over the next couple of days. These are all from my digital camera unless noted. 


 


2004 BMW 325. Just a few pictures, car was in the garage, driveway wasn't big enough to pull it out with my car in it. Interesting story on this one. It belongs to my customer's son. He had one just like it that was hit while parked in front of their house by a PT Cruiser, he showed me the security camera footage, PT just plowed right into it. His son really liked the car so they found another one that needed a good interior cleaning and two step polish.

2000 Acura Intergra Type R. Real one, count the lugs...manual and 10,000 rpm tach too. It has a repaint, tons of orange peel in areas. Thought it would be a good car to use the CarPro Denim Orange Peel pads. Unfortunately, the paint was so freakishly hard, even going to 2000 grit was extremely slow go, and backing out the sanding marks after following with 3000 grit took Meguiars M100 and a wool pad...and left pretty much an LSP ready finish. Since the owner had a budget, I decided to remove what I could with the CarPro pads, polish and seal rest of the paint.

Meguiars M100 using an American Buffing white foamed wool pad and Rupes 21 to remove sanding marks

2014 Tesla Model S. Owner has had it a couple months, luckily the paint was still in great shape, surprising since the blue seems to have the softest clear. Not much correction needed.

2014 Lexus GX460. Brand new, paint was in excellent shape since the owner declined cosmetic prep. He also asked me to remove the dealer badging and the "LX460" which I did with fishing line.

I enjoy reading your 'products used' list almost as much as viewing the excellence in your work.


 


The varied arsenal you employ reminds me of (still in the Holiday spirit) ornaments on a Christmas Tree... none are the same and they are all unique.

I was actually thinking about this same thing as I was reading your thread.



Out of curiosity, how do you choose what you're gonna use on a particular detail? It seems like you utilize quite a variety of products and pads.



Cars look great as usual
 
I've found in general, Meguiars M100 has the best cut of anything I have, Optimum OHP excels on harder clears as a 1 step (light defects) or a final polish, and 3D HD Polish is outstanding as a 1 step (light defects) or final polish on softer clears. Optimum Hyper Compound (OHC) is great on Japanese paints especially. 3M Ultrafina is indispensable as a final polish when using a rotary.


 


Just a lot of playing around and there are exceptions. That's why it's good to have a wide variety of polishes and compounds to handle as many situations as possible. :)

Scott, I just came back to review the photos once more and saw your comments quoted above.


 


Simply put- I wanted to give a proper, "Thank You," since you have displayed some rather <u>large nuggets of information</u> in your last post.


 


Thought provoking on the Ultrafina... rarely seen is 3M praise.

If you use a rotary, 3M Ultrafina is an amazing finishing polish. Used with their blue Utlrafina waffle foam finishing pad, it permanently removes light rotary holograms. It is meant to be used as the 3rd step in a rotary regiment. Compound, polish and then Ultrafina. 
 
Nice work as always guys! I gotta pull the trigger on the Rupes! Your having flawless finishes on Bimmers and Audi's, most don't realize how hard that is to do! Talked to K.Brown the other day, he said to say Hi! Soon as he get's them in I'll have him send me one!
