I just bought a 91' 318i with 70,812 miles on it.The paint is flawless it just hasnt been waxed in forever the previous owner has never done it just has routine washing there is no oxidation what so ever I think it just need clayed polish wax sealed the good stuff, what product would you recommend for it I want the best wax possible to go on the paint.I like the zaino system,is it worth it? I was wondering how hard it is to detail the engine bay of the bme I dont want to F--- it up would I just be better off get someone with experience to do it?

THE CAR IS WHITE!

Zaino would be a good candidate on white if you ask me. Please start the detail with a polish. Poorboys Professioal Polish is fine, but don;t skimp out on the dawn route. If the car is that old, I'm sure it might need more than just a wax remover.

I'm not a Zaino user, but if you plan on using the Zaino system, I would think you would want to use the complete system.
Their swirl remover, polish, etc.

I would get someone else to do it unless you want to spend some time learning what you are doing. You said a couple things that threw up red flags for me...

Ok, that there is a problem. No car that is 15 years old looks flawless after only being washed routinely. It has swirls and it has oxidation unless he had it detailed before he gave it to you. Just because it is a BMW doesn't mean it is immune to oxidation. Being white is probably what hides all the flaws.

Check really closely and see if you can spot the little black and orange dots on the back of the car. Even if you don't see dots, if the paint isn't smooth when you run your hand across it then you need to clay. What I would suggest is to start with a good wash and clay and then use a good paint cleaner to prep for a sealant. White is a good color for Zaino.

You are definitely going to want to get the car polished with a machine. No way is a 15 year old car in perfect shape. It may be low milage, but 70,000 is still enough miles to create a lot of damage. That is the milage of most 4 or 5 year old cars and I've never seen a 4 year old car that has never been waxed looking mint. Either get a PC and handle it yourself, or take it to a detail shop and have it done. You are going to be amazed at how much better it looks after you get it polished. For as good as you think it looks now, it can get a lot better.

J nailed the problem.
Take the car into bright, direct, sunshine, and see if it is still flawless. If it has spiderweb looking lines, it needs some work.
White can be oxidized without looking oxidized, and hid a lot of contamination.

I know it sounds strange that it has no oxidation but the previous owner never drove it rain or winter would not that make a difference .

Yes this will make a huge difference but time alone even in the garage with only washing is going to create some paint problems....I agree with allowing a pro to have a look.....This will setup the paint so that you can then maintain the finish......Good luck and welcome to the site.

Didn't ask but where are you from? we migth have a memeber in the area that can help!

Rain and snow aren't the only elements that cause paint to oxidize. In fact, if all 70,000 of those miles were from being drivin out in the sun then it would be in even more trouble. In fact, some of the warmer more humid climates are harsher on your paint than the colder ones. Regardless, 70,000 miles with no UV protection or any protection on the surface gives me no reason not to suspect paint contamination. Everytime you take your car out into the elements you are exposing it to things that can cause oxidation. I've owned a BMW before and I know how bad the brake dust is on those things. I can't imagine a 91 not having brake dust all over the paint causing the little orange rust dots that we all know brake dust and other IFO can cause.

I think I'am gonna buy klasse AIO Porter Cable buffer, the zaino system unsure yet some opinions would be appreciated. What product do guys recommend I also was thinking about the menzara system too it was a little cheaper price.

Does anyone here have the Zymol $1500.00 wax?

I've got it. It is called Zymol Vintage. Regardless of what you have heard, it isn't the best stuff in the world. The only reason it costs $1500 is because it is good wax and you get lifetime refills on it. If it was only sold one jar at a time then it would be worth much less. There are other Zymol waxes that are just as good as Vintage that you can purchase for less. One jar of vintage isn't worth $1500 bucks. However, 45 jars of Vintage might be.

Oh, and I didn't pay $1500 bucks for it. A friend in Florida sent me the contents of his jar because he wasn't very impressed. I did several comparisons against other waxes a few years ago and determined that for my own uses I am better off using S100 instead. I am just as happy with the looks of that wax.
