BMW clear coat advice and help...

So I have had this problem since I got my BMW. The hood and roof have cloudy/splotchiness. The roof is more splotchy but the basically seen to have the same problem. I finally got around to getting pictures.

My question: What should/can I do? I eventually want to "restore" this car to concours standards, but being 16, it won't happen for a while.

I know with all its paint problems it will eventually need to be repainted, however that will not happen in the next five years. So, what is the "short" term solution? I was thinking of find an autopian in my area to carefully burn through the clear coat. However I haven't a clue of how long the paint would last.

As you can see, the hood look almost a differant colour than the fender, but both are original paint.

I hate to break the bad news, but that looks like CC failure. What year is your BMW?

I figuired it was CC failure. it is an early `97. I think one of the PO's didn't garage it, the rear parcel shelf is super faded.

This might make you feel better or not, but I have seen the same year/color in my neighborhood with the same problem. Is it kind of a purplish color? This person has beyond clear coat failure and I have not seen anyghing like and and surprised to see it on a BMW.

Aubergine was only avalible in `97 &`98. Does the one in your neighborhood have tan leather, because those are few and far between.

How is someone supposed to "burn" through the clearcoat?

Anyways, that is CC failure, nothing will fix that short of a repaint.

The auction house did some clear coat burning on the right side c pillar. It is only throught the clear and the paint underneath is a tad darker.

I just saw it yesterday and don't remember. He or She has some funky wheels though. It seems to be a purple color with massive clear coat failure, it's a 540 if that matters.

the same thing is happening on my dad's accord, but it is spreading. It started to show in very small spots, now it is all over roof, rear quarter panel and it's just starting on the front fender
