Blue VW Passat 01 vs Menzerna RD3.02 and PO106FA

Medium swirls and some larger/deeper scratches. As usual with this VAG cars, the paint was very hard

so I decided to test my 6" wool pad from Buffandshine and Menzerna PO85RD3.02 with my Flex rotary.

Spread the polish @ 900, stepped up to 1900rpm and finished with a couple of passes @ 900. This gave

a very good cut with none to very little hazing.

As a final step I used a new finishing pad and Menzerna PO106FA. Spread @ 900 and up to 2300 until the polish

became clear, finished @ 900.

Wiped of the polish residues with a couple of MF towels.

After this I cleaned the paint with R2000 paint cleaner with my TopTool and finishing pads. Wipe off

with a MF towel.

Sealed the car with R2000 paint sealant using the TopTool.

Then I went home for a shower and dinner.

Next day I wiped of the sealant, it came off like a breeze even after 12 hours.

Gave the car a final touch, dressed trim(with Concept chemicals - Vista) and tires(Allbrite tyre shine?)

Glass was sealed with Res-Bona nano glass treatment.

Interior was done by a friend(Thanks Hulden :D) of mine, vacum, wipe down with a rug upholstery cleaner from Allbrite (love this stuff!)and glass was cleaned.

Excellent job Marcus! You are the Menzerna master. I love those 50/50 shots. I am very impressed with 3.02 and what it can do. I have removed close to 100% of scratches when worked in with a polish pad at 1500 rpm. The gloss that it brings out is spectacular.

Funny I did a 99 VW passat same color last week with 3.02. Was fairly easy with 3.02.

Was severly beat up too.

Again excellent job and thanks for all the advice and tips on 3.02.

Thanks guys.

ryan: I love this colour, this one wasn´t so bashed but it took me a while to sort the paint out. Running low on RD3.02, must get some more.

Have you tested Menzerna APO60, it´s a wax? Must say that I was surprised how good this wax was. Can send you a sample next time.

VW's can be a pain some times and they are not my favorites. I am not sure what it is about the paint. I will tell you that 3.02 makes it much easier though.

I have not tried the apo60 wax yet. Next package swap! I wish shipping was cheaper. To have your package sent under 6 days would have been $96. For $40 it will take 7-12 depending on customs. I will have to check with Fedex prices for the next shipment.

Hopefully you should get your package this week. They said customs can take a while with the strict laws. I think the value were only marked under $30 to make it cheap for you.:D

On the driver door I used a different combo to eliminate the swirls.

The only products used on that door is Menzerna PO85RD3.02. The weapon of choice was TopTool and compounding pads. The finish is not perfect maybee like 85%. But add one or two more polish steps and a sealant on that and you have a very good looking paint.

But this is a very fast combination, one door would take me about 5minutes to correct.

You can also se my buddy who did the interior :D

Thank you very much for the excellent writeup and photos Marcus! The only bad thing is you have me wanting some RD3.02 now. Is there any clear cut answer as to why the product is largely unavailable? Has Menzerna switched to a different formulation? I looked over their website but wasn't able to find out much. :(

Thanks guys.

Ben Kenobi: I have been told that Menzerna are having big problems to source some component to the RD3.02 polish.

I see that you like Nip/tuck as well :D
