Blue Edge 2k 6" on rotary

Hey guys, I have a question for ya. Does it take a pretty good amount of polish to prime the Edge2K blue pad? I put the usual 6 inch line of 106ff on the paint, drew it up with the Makita and spread it at 600 RPM. Popped it to 1200 RPM and within 1 pass I was dry!

The pad starting making rubbing sounds on the paint and it was pretty nasty. So I applied another 6 inch line and took it up and spread it at 600 RPM's again and this time it was ok, but I had a lot of polish that was "stuck" on the paint and was really hard to remove without some serious rubbing and some QD to help.

Is this normal for the blue pad? seems like a whole lot of polish to go through....

i love the blue pad w/ my rotary...i prime it with the usual circle of polish around the pad (about 1" from the outer edge). after that, i apply the product to the panel, as you stated.

It seems like I have to apply 3 or 4 6" lines before my blue pad is primed. Here is a picture of just one line of polish on the brand new pad, treated with one spray of pad lubricant. This is after pass 1, the polish was already dried out already!

I dont think it should look like that!

Jim, are you shaking up the polish well before you apply to the pad, are you in the shade, is the surface of the vehicle hot?

Unfortunately I can't see how much pad lubricant you are using but you seem to be following instructions .

The pad picture looks to dam dry, but it is impossible to really know from a picture.

Try applying "Twice" the amount of "PAD LUBRICANT" and a 6 inch line of polish, spread it around before you even turn on the rotary, turn on at about 600, do a quick pass over the work area (2x2 feet MAX!), turn up to 1200/1400 and do another pass or two at a fairly good pace, not to slow.

If you do the above it should settle down if you have the pad damp enough and with the right amount of product.

I am telling you to literally use to much spray water/polish to see if that is your problem (I think it is, pad to dry). If things smooth out for you "THEN" start to adjust water/polish for effect.

The very best thing would be to have an experienced rotary guy give you a good lesson, even if you have to pay for it.

Hey Change, thanks for the detailed response!

to the first question, yes I am shaking the bottle up before applying. Surface was not hot.

I will try putting some more pad lubrication next time and see what happens. I just think the pad is *so* soft it takes *alot* of polish to prime it. Then again, my pad shouldnt look like that after a pass.

I just dont know.

What did you mean by use this thread to respond to everyone?

Thanks again!
