blkyukon's website question?

Hey everyone,

This question is directed to blkyukon or anyone with any info about his website.

First off, thanks for the great videos blkyukon, they were a HUGE help! My question is, what size pad and BP are you using? It looks like a 6inch BP with a 6.5" pad but i just want to make sure.

I have been using 5" BP w/ 5.25" pads and sometimes 6.5" pads. It seems when i use the 6.5" pads my PC gets bogged down like crazy. I am wondering if i used a 6"BP when using 6.5" pads instead of a 5" BP if it would help with my bogging down problem?

if you look at the "featured products" on the AG video's - 1 Light Swirl Removal

Video & 2 Intermediate Swirl Removal, it looks like he uses a 5" LC backing plate with 6.5 LC flat pads... also, who needs a rotary when you have the PC dialed like he does! :wow:

Al, see when i use my 5" BP w/ a 6.5" pad, it really bogs down the machine.... it doesnt seem to do that in his vid's?? I mean just alittle pressure and the pad stops.

There have been numerous discussions about this and the pad not spinning at other sites and apparently just because the pad is not spinning doesn’t necessarily mean that it's not working, it's actually doing what it's supposed to be doing. I had the exact same problem and it is frustrating. I too was using the 6.5inch pads with a 5inch backing plate and noticed that it would bog down very easily. I switched to the 5inch pads and it feels much better. To be honest I don't know the answer but the 5inch do help. I did notice that the counter weight that comes with the PC says to only use 5inch pads. Well just my $0.02.

in his vid's (AG), it seems like he applies the right amount (not pressing too hard where it bogs down) of pressure with slow overlapping passes. he seems to have it dialed down pretty well, i guess it's just many years of experience with trial and error...

Jim, First I'm glad the website and videos have help, that is good to hear :2thumbs:

To answer your question, I use a 5" bp in all the videos, I did use a 6" when I first started using the PC and the bigger BP seemed to add excessive vibration (as if the PC needed more):buffing: so I switched to the 5"

Now what speed are you running the PC at because unless I am running it at 6 I will have very little spinning of the pad and it will stop spinning when I the pad isn't flat on the paint.

Like Nica said, the spinning of the pad is from centrifugal force (not force driven like a rotary) and will slow or stop depending on the pressure and speed of the PC.

If you look at the "light swirl removal" video I am running the PC at speed 5 and it is barely spinning and stops when it's not flat on the paint.

Again like Nica said it's still doing it's job even when it's not spinning, but using a smaller pad will give you more spin and more cut too.

Hope this helps

Take care,

Charles

Hey Charles,

thanks for the reply. I use mostly the 5.25" pads anyways, but just wanted some insight in what BP you were using for the 6.5" pads and why they seemed to not spin for me. I do use them on speed 6 as well.

Do you put your pc on speed 6 w/ the smaller pads as well? or do you tone it down because of the smaller pad size?

Thanks alot for your help and input, I appreciate it!

I use a 4" pad on both speed 5 or 6...the speed I use depends on what I'm trying to remove, product/pad combo I'm using, etc.
