Blitz and water spots??

I detailed a friends black corvette z06 a couple of weeks ago. I used WG twins on the whole car and on the hood only, I also put a layer of Blitz wax.

I saw him this morning and went to wipe down the car with some FD to shine it up fo him. I noticed that the hood had really bad water spots, I couldn't get rid of then with just FD.

It was the only part of the car that had this problem, including the roof and the deck lid, which wpuld have been exposed to the same conditions.

Is it the Blitz? The spots were not there when I finished it a couple of weeks ago.

I didn't have any vinegar handy, so I couldn't use vinegar/water mix to get rid of them.

Question on that though, will the vinegar water mixture remove any of the protective layers (wax or sealant)?

Thanks,

Cory

Cory,

As a user of Blitz, it does not contain any cleaners. It's simply a wax for protection. However, if your friend's car had hard water spots shortly after you applied the Blitz..say a day or two and they were not washed off they probably need more than a FD to remove them. Black in heat doesn't take the minerals in hard water long to begin etchinig. I doubt they will be difficult. Probably one was should do it. However, Blitz or any other wax can't cause water spots, but unremoved ones can look nasty and sit on the hood until it's washed, or polished.

Maybe they aren't "water" spots? I've parked under some interesting trees that left what looked like water spots on the horizontal panels..hood, top, trunk, etc. Usually a wash removes them, but there are some trees that are real buggers and require a little more work. Lastly, the longer they are on there the harder to remove. Call your buddy and wash the car and see what happens. If they don't come off, do a small section with a mild polish and check the results.

That sounds like a reasonable hypothesis, as I've had similar experiences. If you're correct, washing should remove them.

Perhaps he parked near a sprinkler or under a tree that only got water or other stuff on the hood. The fact that it has blitz on it may only be a coincidence?

Just a thought.

edit: coincidence not consequence....duh!

Hadn't thought of that one - highly likely.

Thanks everyone for the input. Although, I never did find out if the vinegar and water mixture would remove the wax or sealant?
