Blitz after Zaino?

Got a 03 VW 20th Anniversary GTI in Black Magic pearl.

Think darkest gray with high metallic, not true black. BMW's "cosmic black" w/out as much multi-colored refraction in the metallic.

Anyhow...the paint is unbelieveably soft.

Klasse AIO was OK, but even the slightest elbow grease (even w/plush MFT's) was leaving marks.

So I Blitzed the fresh paint and it helped a lot.

A friend has a Uni-black Trailblazer and swears by Zaino. So I tried it.

Dawn'd the car, used their Z5 w/ZFX to prep, then 3 coats of Z5 to polish. Looks GREAT! Perfection on dark cars (coming from silver) is a bear...but it's satisfying.

OKAY...ON TO THE QUESTION!

Can I Blitz over this Zaino work? Or is that baaad?

It'll work but no more adding any more Zaino coats. I treat my Zaino differently I guess, I just leave it the way it is and keep adding Z layers and Z6/Z7 it. I personally would just keep adding a coat of Z2 biweekly or monthly or maybe even every 2 months. same thing with Blitz, but it detracts from the Zaino look which I prefer on certain cars.

Its all up to the eye of the beholder and its you car, so you can try it :)

I did it for a few months and did not like the look. Give it a shot

and see. Also Zaino says Zee topping with wax will degrade the Zee.

Since I’ve never used Blitz, I can’t help you there - but here’s what I’ve found about topping Zaino.

After putting 30+ layers of Z on my Jet Black paint I started experimenting with doing other things. Spent about a month topping the Z with several different carnaubas and found that all of them added depth to the mirror-like Zaino. To be successful I needed to use a fairly hard carnauba - Souverän, P21S, and S100 pastes worked the best - and apply very thin layers. The thin layers didn’t dull the reflectivity of the Zaino and did add the needed depth.

I also experimented with starting with different sealants other than Zaino - Blackfire, Platinum, and EX. I found that Blackfire was too oily for my liking, but Platinum and EX gave great results when topped with my hard pastes.

Since then I’ve started polishing out all of the marring (which of course removed the underlying sealants and waxes) section by section. Then applying 3-4 layers of either Z or PUPP and topping with one of my three paste carnaubas. I’m presently about 3/4 of the way around the car and will add EX as a base to one or two of the remaining areas. All three methods give great results, but time will tell which one pleases me the most.

Lately I’ve been spending most of my time trying to learn how to use IHG between the layers of carnauba. Some success, and a lot of failures. It seems like it takes voodoo to make it work well, but at least I’m learning what doesn’t work so I am getting it narrowed down.

If you don’t like the looks of the carnauba on top of the Zaino, or want to add more Zaino, all that you need to do is wash with Dawn, rewash with Z-7, wipe with Z-6 and you’re set to go.

Blitz isn't a cleaner/wax is it? If so it'll eat your Zaino!

Have fun with your new GTI!
