Blackfire Spray Wax on Black Tacoma

Well I was the proud recipient of a can of Blackfire Spray Wax. Thanks Autopia Car Care.

Here are a few observations from my first encounter with this new wax.

Prior to application the truck was washed with Meguiars Gold Class and a Gold Plush Microfiber Wash Mitt. (Love it) Anyway, on to the review.

From store front - Directions: Shake can well. Wash and dry vehicle thoroughly. Spray BLACKFIRE Midnight Sun Spray Wax on to a section of paint and spread if necessary with a soft microfiber or foam applicator. Allow 5-15 minutes for the product to haze and wipe off with a clean, soft microfiber towel. Do not apply in direct sunlight to hot surfaces or on extremely cold days.

The directions on the can are a bit more specific with regard to the atmospheric conditions necessary for application: "FOR BEST RESULTS, USE BETWEEN 68-75 F." Well in order for that to happen in Phx in May, I'm gonna need to be up early. So I got a fresh start washing the truck before sunrise.

The can also states that the wax will separate quickly so shaking well is necessary.

My test truck belongs to my dearest Ashley. Funny, before meeting me she really didn't appreciate the effort or benefits of waxing a car. She has been converted. When I asked her if I could sample a wax with her truck, she squinted with confused look and said, "I thought we liked that other wax". That other wax is FK1000P. 1000P has proved to be an excellent wax for her truck with two exceptions, it tends to leave white caking in rock ships and can stain trim. So I chose her black truck to see if BF Spray Wax would stain trim or leave white residue anywhere.

Application: I found it really easy to use too much wax. The reason for this is, I applied in a slight breeze. The wax comes from the can in a very fine mist and disperses well. However, the mist is so fine that with a breeze some of the product blew away. So I held the can closer to the truck, and ta-da! too much product. To solve this issue, I recommend applying indoors. To ensure thin application, keep moving. In a few places I either had the can too close or spent too much time in an area and the product went on too thick causing a longer dry time. In a few places I spread the wax to assist in coverage and speed up the dry time. The wax can be spread to cover areas not touched by the spray nozzle. The wax was not removed by wiping when wet.

Hazing: Areas with proper coverage (thin) hazed within 5 minutes.

Removal: I chose the plushest towel I have to see if the supper soft MF would remove the wax. Yes. Ease of removal is between Blackfire Wet Diamond and Blackfire Midnight Sun. In short, not super easy, not difficult at all.

Staining: I did not tape or cover anything on the truck. I sprayed to cover paint and some of the wax may have covered door handles, trim, or windows. The wax was easily removed from all of these area with no more effort than removing it from the paint. It was so easy to remove from the glass that I may consider using it as a treatment for my windows. The wax left no white residue on black bumper trim, black side molding, or window trim. I was impressed.

The Tocoma has a piece of black rubber on the fender flair. This trim can be stained by other waxes, not Blackfire Spray Wax.

No staining here.

Dusting: Areas with proper application (thin) produced no dusting. Areas with too much product did produce a bit of dusting. This was by no means annoying or hard to deal with, however. I simply folded the towel and went over the area again, and dusting became no issue.

Appearance: I really like the look of this wax. This Tacoma is metallic black, and the flake really pops with this wax. More so than with 1000p which is somewhat sterile on this truck. So why would Ashley like 1000p then, durability.

Summary: Apply thin for best results. Application has a bit of a learning curve. Still, it is very easy to use. I have found other effective waxes just as easy or easier to use, for example, OCW. However, OCW for some reason can cause streaking on this truck. It is too soon to compare durability to what I normally use on this truck, but ease of use compared to 1000p makes it a winner. Even is if I had to apply often, it would not be a chore. Over all, I consider this wax a winner. Easy to use, no staining, and great looks.

One thing I didn't try and wish I had is spraying the wax on an applicator pad and spreading by hand. Maybe one of the next reviewer can give this a shot.

A+........thanks for a great review and pics.

Great review!! Looking forward to trying mine out tomorrow.

Trying mine tomorrow on wifes cars, just afraid I will waste product if there is a breeze.
