Blackfire question...

 When using Blackfire polish with a flex...
On the information in PAC I was reading one instructional page and it said to mist the pad with water before applying. On another page it said to use a pad lubricant prior to application ( is this water or a special lubricant? ). To further confuse me on the Blackfire product application page it states to apply all Blackfire products with a dry pad. Wondering which way to proceed?? Thanks.

This is an example of a foam pad lubricant:

When using a machine polisher, the key is to give the pad some moisture to start with so you are not running a dry pad across the paint. The lube will also prevent the polish from drying out before it breaks down. This is handy in hotter climates. In a pinch, I have used a QD spray or distilled H2O and achieved the same results.

As far as the "dry pad" instruction on the Blackfire page. I believe that instruction is specific to hand application, where you are not going to build the same friction; hence you won't need the lube. I have found that with some polishes (by hand) I have needed a small spritz of water on the pad. You certainly won't hurt anything if you use a moist pad as needed with certain polishes.

Some waxes (Collinite), and some sealants (Klasse AIO), apply much easier with a moist (not wet) pad. In these cases use distilled H2O, not the pad lube. You can use tap water in a pinch but I like the fact that there are no minerals in the distilled H2O.

I hope this helps.

Regardless of what product I'm using, I always "prime" the pad first. Meaning that I apply product, a spray of water, then rub the product into the pad completely with my fingers. This promotes even application and no splatter.:)

Thanks for the information. This is my first run so wanted to be right. This forum is addictive as each time I get on I find I need more products. Don't know if I'll get everything I need before I run out of money! Ha! Thanks again.

Well, there's no need to get everything all at once. (Get's expensive!). Just start with the basics and add a product next time you can afford it.

Sometimes there are also people willing to trade products with you, if they are overstocked or not presently using them.:cornut:
