Blackfire or Platinum UPP on Metallic Blue?

I've read numerous threads on this forum about sealants and have decided to use either Blackfire 2 or Platinum UPP on my vehicle. I've used the original formula of Blackfire but not the new forumula or Platinum. Looking at the previous posts, these products sound about equal except people report less dusting with Platinum. Any opinions on which would look better on a medium metallic blue car? The car has a high degree of metalflake in the paint which I wouldn't want to hide.

I can't vouch for Platinum, but I can say that the Blackfire will really make that metal flake "pop"...my car has quite a bit of metal flake, and I use Blackfire for that reason. Hopefully, someone that has experience with UPP will chime in here.

I second what StickKing said. Blackfire on metallics is pretty dang awesome. The new Blackfire is much better than the previous one. It is slick, and beads incredibly, and much less product is required.

However, it is a bit harder to apply. Just use it sparingly and you shouldn't have a problem.

I think Blackfire and Platinum are just similar in their looks, but not really similar products. For one, I've never seen Blackfire separate like those picts of Platinum, and it sounds like Platinum doesn't have the same smearing problems?

Here's one of my favorite "pop" pictures of my car. There was a place I sometimes go and get lunch while at work where in the parking lot my car just looked awesome. Like this picture, but the color looked redder and deeper but still with the same pop. I should have taken a camera to work before applying the Zaino because it looks pretty similar to that rear shot I took of the Z. Anyway, here's the picture with the Blackfire pop:

Edit: Dang StickKing, your avatar is bigger than mine. I thought I sized mine as big as was allowed... I guess I'll have to fool around with it more. :P

I think UPP looks great on dark blue, but Zaino Z5 is just awesome.

:D Jeez..hadn't even noticed that. Yeah, I seem to remember having to resize it about 10 times before it would fit. I must have just crept in under the limit.

EDIT: Maybe it has to do more with the file size rather than the picture size. My avatar is just a small .gif file and you're is a digital pic that you had to shrink...alot more data stored in yours...:nixweiss

BTW...Nice pic Acehole....I gotta watch the spelling on that;)

Thanks for the input so far. It sounds like the new Blackfire will look very good on the color. Would like to hear from those who've used Platinum on light or medium colored metallic finishes before deciding. If I could get the same visual effects and less dust attraction with Platinum, I might try it.

BTW, I thought someone was just selling a bottle of Blackfire Protectant on the site here..maybe they've sold it, I don't see the listing anymore. I just figured if you were interested, that would be a good way to score a bottle cheap. They were only selling the Protectant, not the Polish....which is fine. IMO, the Blackfire Polish is not a requirement before the Paint Protectant. It does need a pre-polish step, but I use Meguiar's Swirl-Free Polish for that...then follow up with the AFPP.

I've got 3 coats of BF2 on my Ocean Blue TT.... its not as bright of a blue as your car... but it deffinately pops!! theres quite a bit of very fine pearl/mettalic flake in Ocean.... it reflects back dark blue/grey, purple or even green sometimes in certain lights ;)

heres a pic after I got it out of the garage and into the sunlight.

Bluheaven and Aurora40, thanks for posting those Blackfire shots. The cars and the shine look great.

Regarding the Blackfire for sale, I actually have a new bottle of Blackfire 2 on hand but haven't applied it yet since I'm still waiting for the paint to cure (had the car repainted due to problems with the factory finish). Hoping to decide on which product to use by the end of this month when it should be safe to apply it.

Acehole, is that Zaino or UPP in that photo?

Pictures??...did someone say pictures of BF'd cars? I can't pass up an oppourtunity like that!

BTW: I believe Acehole's pic is Zaino Z5.

It is Z5, but I love how UPP looks on that color too.

not to post a for sale thread or anything, but that bottle of bf2 that i had is still for sale. If you can get bf2 to work for you, then good, but id recommend you try it on something besides your car first to get the hang of it. Apply it thin is the key, use a foam app or mf app to apply it. Even though i am a klasse user, i will say bf2 has the slickest finish and a lot of reflectivity with some depth in it(rivals caranuba a bit). haven't tried upp, but im sure its just like bf2.

Here is UPP over AIO on the rear deck. I think it looks every bit as good as Z5. Maybe a bit deeper in color too.

Here is my Boxster with multiple coats of Klasse over AIO. I tried going back to carnubas this summer but couldnt deal with all the work, residue, and lack of shine. I am sold on polymers/acrilics.

below is a picture with S100.

Acehole, UPP looks very reflective in that shot. It's going to be a tough choice. May have to try them both on a small portion of the car before doing the whole thing unless I can find a tie breaker.

I've used both BFII and PUPP on silver Audis and yes, the appearance is VERY similar. Any slight advantage BFII might have disappears after the first wash. I did find the PUPP *MUCH* easier to use, virtually fool-proof. I had problems with the BFII smearing (no matter WHAT I tried and I tried everything); note that BFII is the ONLY product I've EVER had trouble using (I consider Collinite wax and Klasse SG incredibly EASY to use, for instance). If you want a tie-breaker, consider the ease-of-use. BTW, either product will look GREAT on your blue.

Thanks, that sounds like a tie-breaker to me. I'll give Platinum UPP a try on the 350Z.

Thanks to everyone for your input. Since the new paint hasn't been waxed yet, I wanted to start out with the product that I thought I had the most chance of sticking with in the long run.
