Black Wow - Test/Review

Here is a little test I am doing with Black Wow. Just wanted to show some pics to you guys. This is after 1 coat of black Wow. The trim had never been dressed properly in the 3 years the current owner has had the car. Can't speak for the previous owner. This is a 1994 Mustang Cobra.

Only half of the trim is dressed on the 2nd pic. Close to the sprinkler.

I'm going back to finish polishing this car in the next few days and will take pics after washing and after applying a 2nd coat of black wow. I'll also try to return and take a pic of it in a couple of weeks.

About the product:

It's very easy to apply and a drop goes a long way. I did that whole trim under the wipers with 3 tiny drops.

It's a little greasy and it can make a little mess. I just had to wipe the paint and glass as it touched it slightly. I used IPA and it came off instantly...

It smells great! Cotton Candy?

Looks great! I have a bottle due to ship on or about 8/20 which will be used first on my '95 Mustang GT. Keep us advised on the durability.

Yea thats spectacular. Could you do a day after pic? I've noticed a lot of trim products loose that oily shiny look after a day. Also, do tell on overall durability :)

That looks great. I'm interested in seeing how long it lasts too.

The more trim products I try though, the more I start to think that it's all kind of hit or miss just like tire dressing. I don't think it's because the product isn't working, but rather because some rubber works better with certain formulations than others and vice versa.

I cleaned the trim extensively with IPA before applying it too. A lot of black stuff came off.

I can't take a day after pic but I can do one next weekend. I'm expecting it to loose some shine, which is fine with me as i prefer matte. I'll wash the car and apply a second coat. I'll try to take a pic a month after then...

Thanks for the review. Did you clean the trim with straight IPA or a 50/50 mix? Looks like a good product.

i hve blk wow on trim and i think it works great.applied 1 month ago and still shows luster.i'm in phoenix and it's hot,114 yesterday.i'm keeping track on how long it is till i need to do again.

Thanks for the great review...sounds like a product I must try.

2 Questions...what is IPA, and where can you get "Black Wow"?

Thanks

isopropyl alcohol and showcardetailing.com

I currently use this and I wonder how it compares to Ultima's Tire & Trim Guard... I love Black Wow though. But you have to be very careful not to get it on your paint, its a PITA to remove.

The look in the photo and description resemble PB's TR .... in your opinion how do they compare?

PB's TR is clear, a little viscous (think less than a vegetable oil), smells like coconut, and is oily.

Black Wow is red/orange/pinkish, very viscous (like maple syrup), smells like cotton candy, and is also oily.

I have both but have not really tested one against the other. They are both easy to apply. I get more out of Black wow but you also get a lot less per container.

Wouldnt the IPA dry out the trim over the long term?

You use it at a 50% water / 50% IPA mix ?

Tks

This was for a detail and it was really dirty so I used the IPA to clean. I wanted to make sure it would bond straight to the vinyl/plastic whatever it is... I would not use IPA every single time on a car just to keep it clean.

Yes it was a 1:1 mix of dH2O and 97% IPA. I guess you can call it a 50% IPA.
