Black Tahoe LTZ Detail Slide Show

This was perhaps our most challenging one ever. 9am to 7pm, 45 minute break for lunch. Here is the slide show for the detail with some before and ofter pics. Vehicle has 50K miles over two years.

We used the following process:



1Z shampoo for starting car wash



Wheels

777 APC for wheel cleaning

ZAIO for wheel sealant

Z-16 on tires

ArmorAll tire foam on wheel wells



Polishing out the Swirls

Combination of Metabo and Hitachi and Makita rotaries with Presta 1500, 3M Extra Cut and 3M Ultrafina

Indigo Blue edgeless towels for residue removal

Z-6 for Wipedowns

Duragloss shampoo for second wash to rinse out dust



Sealing

Zaino Z-5 Pro X 2

Zaino Z-8

PakShak edgeless for sealant removal



Interior

MetroVac

303 Aerospace Protectant on plastic and door seals and running boards

Zaino All In One for the wood paneling

Zaino Z-10 on leather seats

1Z Scheibenklar on windows

You guys did a great job!



The paint on these newer GM's are horrible, but then again a lot of the new blacks from every company are getting horrible to deal with.

My friend has a black 07' Escalade with the same horrible paint



It can be a real pain to deal with!

We did find the following combo works very well on this GM paint:



1st stage-Metabo with wool pad and 3M Extra Cut.

2nd stage-Metabo with wool pad and Presta 1500.

3rd stage-Hitachi with Ultrafina pad and Ultrafina polish.



Works quite well. :)
 
I deal with Black paint similar to the Tahoe everyday. Swirls appear out of no where. Swirls appear when you think about touching the paint. They definitely appear when you touch the paint.



I love the Black though!! I liked the slide show with the comments. Nice touch!!

I have put together that system and it works a few notches better than quite well:D I am sure the pictures do not show the actual true gloss.

It still amazes me that not many people are looking and commenting on this job well done.
 
So the job took 20 man hours!!! I hope the customer really gets the effort and will make an effort to maintain it.



So going from presta1500 to ultrafina was not a big leap? that was a big time saver for sure then.
 
Yes, it was a huge effort 2 men working 10 hours on the truck. It had some swirls. I must say that this was the toughest black paint I have ever worked with in terms of fixing the swirls. I don't think it had much attention from a polishing standpoint since new two years ago.



It was a bear for me to use the Makita to rotary the roof. That thing gets heavy fast when you are holding it with arms extended. I'm 6'3" and lanky as well so the arm reach was not an issue. A big, big vehicle.



The client was very happy and that's what matters. :)

I had to do a jacked up +34" wheel Ford Expedition and just took off my shoes and climbed on the hood:shocked, what ever scratches I did with my socks would be removed later!



Anyhow, great job again.

Very nice improvement.



I don't envy you. I may be doing my brother's (actually my sister in laws) Denali in the next few weeks. Needless to say, it will be a lengthy detail! :eek:
 
Lee, Bret and yourself did a great job!!!! The finish looks stunning.



Before I started using M105, I did just a "few cars" with ECC/yellow wool, P1500/green wool and UF with Blue 3M foam or LC foam.
