This was the first car that i detailed with the porter-cable polisher... Just picked that up today too... I spent about 7 hours on this car today... i definately need some quality MF's, pads, and a variety of products...

This was my process:

Gold Class wash, then dry.

Mothers Clay bar.

Megs #9 W/white pad with PC on 3

NXT wax W/white pad with PC on 3

Neverdull on wheels and exhaust tips.

S-dressing on tires.

Back to Black on mirrors and trim.

tomorrow i will put another cote of NXT wax on.

The before shots were taking outside in the sun. The after shots indoors. The swirling in the before shots looked pretty bad. You only used Megs #9 and a polishing pad on th PC @ 3. I have never had much luck removing swirls like that with #9. Unless NXT did a super job of filling the swirls I would bet they are still there in the sun. Your after shots should be close to the same conditions as your before shots so the results of your work can be seen.

#9 has non-abrasive cleaners and uses fillers to mask swirls instead of completely removing them.

You may want to look at a stronger polish with abrasives for swirls like those, maybe DACP in the meguiars line, and crank up the PC to at least 5.

#9 has abrasives as well as fillers. The fillers in #9 don't work that well to hide the type of swirls that are in the before pick.

I know a stronger polish is needed. That was my point. I seriously doubt that the swirls are removed or even filled. The after shots were taken indoors. Can't really tell how much real improvement there is.

#9 has non-abrasive cleaners. I wasn't suggesting "you" need a stronger polish, but BuffMUSTANG does. :nixweiss

abrasive, non-abrasive... who cares? either way, it ain't enough for the damage done to this saleen. I'm just wondering what the hell happened to all the black trim??? that seems like an awful lot of wax residue... might want to try taping those off next time.

If it was abrasive it would have helped. Maybe someone misunderstood the product, as it is mis-labeled as "Swirl Remover".

Thats a relatively new car isn;t it? It looks like it got abused. But it seems you did a good job of restoring it.

man that Saleen was pretty bad, but now it looks better than new! awesome work! :bow

it's good to know that such a special pony is being taken care of. and nice garage and collection of ponies.

L33,

Where did you get your information that #9 is non abrasive? It is a 3 on megs abrasive scale. Maybe Mike Philips will come along soon and give his input.

Thanks a lot everyone for the encouraging comments... i needed that... Like i said, this was the first car i detailed for someone else and i was nervous about it... Now i have more confidence, i just need practice with the PC... That and some pads, MF's, and more products...

Thanks again.. BTW, i think it looks good too... :)

Pretty much any retailer of the product.

Not that its a bad product, but it seems more of a gloss inhancer than a swirl remover (according to the back of the bottle)

Does Back to Black work pretty well? I've got some faded black trim that needs to be restored.

I don't understand why car companies use those cheap plastic mirrors...especially on an expensive car like that. :nixweiss

I hope detailing isn't your full time job! After 7 long hard hours you didn't make very much money. The job you did is worth more than that!:)
