Black Range Rover

My brother in his infinite wisdom picked up a really nice truck. He bought this one instead of his usuall lease, so he cares about the maintenance. This should be fun b/c his plans on not car washing this in the swirlamatic! The Audi (also black) that we returned off lease was looking like some of the before's in David's posts - think Hammered Lexus.

Well--it is BLACK. Lots of black trim and paint. Car is brand spanking new and pretty clean. He will be here in an hour or so becasue we plan on washing, claying and sealing the beast. I am hoping the car is not swirled ! I checked it with the brinkman upon pick up and it looked good, just not sure if they glazed it? I told him to pick it up "un prepped" and get it done professionally and he though I was crazy. After we dawn wash it, it will let you know if I am crazy.

So a few questions:
1. Is this a hard or soft clear? it is a 2011 RR Sport?
2. SO I seal or 303 the black flat pannels behind the rear windows? If I buff off the 303 will it run in the rain?
3. Using BWFD with a flex and PC. Should I use a black, gold pad to apply or a red edge pad? What is the softest that won't mar the paint?

RR paint is generally on the hard side. As for the pads you listed to apply BFWD none of them should marr the finish. Personally I dont like the gold pad because I feel its too soft for its own good, I prefer a little firmer pad to get a nice even spread with BFWD. Black or red seems to be perfect for me.
 
I agree on the red pad being a good choice. On a recent Acura NSX with soft black paint I had no problems. I can't imagine you would have a problem with the Rover's hard paint.

The plastic pillars on the back of RR can be tricky. I have tried many products, only to be disappointed by the results. Best success I have had is Klasse AIO. Another poster asked the same basic question and someone recommended following the Klasse with Colonite. Haven't tried the combo, but I have been pretty happy with the Klasse alone. Being new, it shouldn't be a problem. Tell him to keep those parts sealed, as once they start to fade they become much more difficult to get the desired result.

Thanks David-Car was loaded with Pollen and I had to scrub off all the greasy dessing from the tires, and bumpers and lower cladding. Took forever to get it to stop beading. Had to clean the wheels very well, these thisngs have like 18oo spokes each and I sent through a hundred q tips-Got wheels sealed well, polished the exhaust tips that were not gleaming. Applied Aqua Pel all experior Glass.

Never got to paint because it was too sunny-the garage was occupied and I don't have a POP up tent. So it was a deep cleaning and I will hit the paint next weekend.

I will be ordering some Kasse AIO-Can someone tell me why thjis is different that a fine polish?

Duragloss 501 works well on the trim, and that black plastic trim on the rear quarters, just wipe it off right after application.

BFWD via red CCS pad on PC (or similar) works great!

I actually use the LC Gold Kompressor pad to apply BFWD. I know that the Kompressor pads are best suited for Rotary use, but I really like how it applies the BFWD.
 
I am the guy

My wife has a Black RR Sport and I am the guy who posted the question ref. the black plastic trim. I have tried 303 and am currently using the Eagle 1 gel. Both will run in the rain. I buff the hell out of the trim after application but it still runs. I can't wait for the Klasse and Colonite 845 to arrive. I love the way this truck looks when I finish detailiing it, I hate the way the trim looks though.

I am considering removing the trim (if possible) and having it painted. We will see what the Klasse does.

Klasse AIO follow up

Finally got around to using the AIO on the rear trim on my wife's RR Sport (also black). I have to say that I may not have removed all of the built up protectant from the trim before I applied the Klasse. I wiped them down with a MF towel that I saturated with degreaser then wiped again with a wet towel.

It has rained a couple of times and I can report that the Klasse definitely works better than either of the products I previously used (Lexol and Eagle 1 trim gel). Both would streak after contact with water. The Klasse held up much better although it did streak a little. I think that may be a result of my not completely getting the old stuff off.

Next I plan to do a combo of Klasse and Colonite 845.
