Black Magic products

New to me in the UK - anyone have any experiences with them?

I picked up some tyre swipes and wax applicators and the store I got them from (my second choice Meguiars stockist after Alex) had a fairly extensive range of brushes, MF's and so on.

I used the Black Magic car wash and also the wheel cleaner.

The wheel cleaner seems to have a high acid content. I only use it on the worst wheels and leave it on for half the recommended time.

The car wash is OK. It does have a nice cherry smell. Suds are alright .

The reason I tried these were that the wheel cleaner was free after rebate and the car wash was on sale for for something like a buck a bottle.

These products would not make me switch from my normally used ones.

I personally don't like the wax applicators. I thought they might be good since they have a handle like shape, but I found that the foam does not glide over the paint well. I prefer the meguiars foam wax applicator. The car wash is OK, but for the same price EO wet works better. IMO the product are OK but I can find better stuff for the same price from other manufactures.

I have used only the tire shine, and I think it sucks big time...... and I have favorable opinions on many OTC products.

It appears that the Black Magic Products were previously owned by Pennzoil-Quaker State Company then they were bought out by Shell Oil Company. In May of 2003, Pennzoil-Quaker State Company began doing business as Pennzoil/QS/Shell and now market them under the SOPUS brand of products. Whew!

They do have a web presence @ http://www.blackmagiccarcare.com/

As stated earlier they are an OTC brand here in the US. My local Walmart seems to push this brand by giving it more shelf space than Megs and others. I have never been overly impressed with any of their detail tools/brushes or any of their chemicals enough to actually purchase them.

I believe they are aimed at the "Joe weekend car washer" who would think that their packaging looked nice. Although some of their stuff may be just OK, it's nothing to get too excited about.

I would actually consider using the Dupont Teflon line of car care products over the Black Magic if you want to try some relatively inexpensive OTC stuff.

Their detail tools are mediocre, I bought the whole line when I was getting into the business, and I dont regret it but there are much better otc choices now (Meg's GC). As far as their products go, I love the smell, hate everything else haha.

ive only tried the black magic tire shine. it was terrible, real slippery and feels like WD-40, doesnt leave tires wet or shiney even after 2-3 coats. theres some minor sling around the wheel wells and fenders i see. one good thing about it is the smell. smells like strawberries and cherries.

I got a free can of Tire Foam by Black Magic and don't find it half bad. The look is okay, sling is there but not terrible, and durability is really not all that bad. Application is easy, but I think I'll use this on not-so nice vehicles. However, I really like the ease of application and look in wheel wells.

So I am not the only one..... The worst is when you apply another tire dressing later and you will find your tires become brown.....
