black land rover discovery

Hi, everyone! Im having some trouble trying to find out the best way to polish and remove the swirls on this particular vechicle. Since 80% of the car is made out of aluminum i dont want to risk machine buff or polish with risk of bowing the body panels. Can anyone tell me how to acheive the best treatment for this. Oh, it's a 04 landrover discovery "black". Comments appreciated.

I am a little confused.... You want to do it without using a machine buffer/polisher? I would think you could use a PC without any troubles. Fill us in and I'm sure you'll get some knowledgable answers.

Yeah, I was told that if i used pc or rotary that it would be to much for the aluminum body on the car, and the outcome would be that the body of the car will start bowing. I guess having to do with heat build-up. I really want to get the best results so i figure the best way to do it is by using a pc or rotary and not by hand.

i doubt a PC would generate enough heat to bow a panel. Also...isnt the discovery one of the best all time off road vehicles? I cant imagine that a panel would deflect that much from a little machine action. try calling a land rover shop and asking them if they machine polish or better yet log onto a land rover forum.

I agree with CarDesign. If the Land Rover can't handle being polished with a PC, I would seriously doubt ever taking it off road (maybe even on road....just leave it in the garage to look at it maybe :dunno)much less ever owning one. A PC is random orbit, so I doubt it would generate enough heat to damage the body panels. I'd think you'd be safe.

I have used my Makita on many aluminum paneled vehicles without any bowing or any other problems. The problem most likely came from improper usage by someone who was being careless. I really doubt you could do any damage with a PC even if you try (everything short of throwing it at the panels from your roof).

to avoid the damage of your land rover discovery, you must be very careful in using it. since the best cure in damaging it is by using with care. but i am using the meguiars for land rover repair i mean body paint.

I have done a handfull of Acura NSXs in the past 6 months. (some posted on this site) They are aluminum bodies and I had no problem with any of them with PC or Makita rotary with wool. The same common sense and care taken with any other car should suffice. My general rule is to never let the paint get hotter than it would after sitting an hour in direct sun.

I didn't notice the date either. Perhaps an indicator on threads that have been dormant for a year or more would prevent old questions from being answered.
