So a client calls and tells me he wants his Lambo detailed, cool I say and schedule a time. The night prior to the apppointment he informs me that he wanted to replace the clear bra but that it didn't go so well...um yeah

RIDS all over the hood from the 3m wheel, plastic razor blades, WD40, Contact Ceaner, Prep Sol, GooBGone, Lighter Fluid, Heat gun, hair dryer and god knows what else to get the adhesive off...;)

I'll get some final pics when I finish the rest of the car, I ran out of weekend!

Looking at those pics and reading how you took that clearbra off, I must award you the "Cahones The Size of Saturn" Award. I would sh*t myself looking at what it took to take it off from the 4th pic on...Wow! :goodjob

This is tooo scary....I too just removed some clearbra from my boss's Gallardo and had a feild day dealing with the adhesive TOO! Crazy! Much worse for you though gotta admit haha.

Fantastic job, you...not the bra installer. That had to be a fun day removing goo for hours.

Yeah, even a guy that installs clear bras came by and he said he's never seen one this bad, he had no idea how to get this adhesive off either. It just laughed at the 3m adhesive stuff. We think they used that plastic stuff you put down over carpets, I'll have to take a pic of the stuff, crazy how thick it was!

What did you use to grind those words in the bonnet?

3m Stripe removal wheel

next time why don't you call an installer and ask what they use? they can get it off much easier i'm sure. :think2

Use a steamer, it will take the adhesive right off.

But use the steamer in the first place, the film will peel right off the car in a matter of minutes.

Hot water is also helpful for removing the film. It heats the glue evenly.

That being said, sometimes old film just won't come off smoothly, no matter what you do.

P.S. Cool detail on the lambo.

:xyxthumbs That was step one, actually had a 3M installer come by the shop and after a few hours he was stumped, he said he's never seen one so "stuck" on before.

The steamer was the first the 3M installer grabbed, pic one was that result. Actually the bumper and front fenders came off relatively (as opposed to the hood) easy but the hood and mirrors were something the tech couldn't identify. It was so thick you could stab it with a screw driver and not puncture it!

*Also let me just add, I did not go into this blindly. When I heard what it was he wanted to do I immediately started searching to see what the best approach and what items I would need. Everything, and I mean every process described as "how to" did not work on this car. I spent 87 dollars on every "go to" process before finding a combo that worked.

What he said. Wow.

That must have been some *really* low-quality film! I have *never* seen any film leave adhesive like that.

FWIW, the Malco Citra-clean full-strength would have chewed through that adhesive in a matter of mintues. We spray it on, allow it dwell, then pressure wash off. The stuff will remove old adhesive from tint (known for being a PITA) in minutes--dwell time is very important. We use it for all sorts of adhesive, but especially when removing adhesive left from old PPF installs.

Not that you will ever come across this again. :D
