Black G37 rescued from 13K miles of hell *56K* vaporlock

This G37 though low mileage in was riddled with marring, it had it all-- buffer swirls, RIDS, wash-inducd marring, etc.



Took about 36 man hours to correct with the following:



M105 FLEX/Orange pad

3M PI 3000 rubbing compound FLEX/orange pad

FPII flex red ccs pad

Sealed with customer supplied NXT 2.0



Unusual combo, but it worked on this car…



The car was so covered in fillers that we had a hard time breaking through all of the oils to see the paint.

We foamed it with a heavy detergent(it’s formulated to remove bugs without agitation):

Just wondering, how do you tell that the oils are still there? What are the visual ques or ways to tell?



I think you can use 50/50 isopropyl to remove it but is there another easier way to tell?

If you look in the photos you can see where the oils have not been fully removed. We could also tell as they were building up/mixing with M105 as we polished. That is one of the reasons that we followed M105 with 3m PI III RC--it removed all of the oils and allowed us to see the finish.

Saleenfan, they probably just washed it with a stiff brush/dirty mitt a few thousand times! :D

I'm a noob so please bear with me as I learn.



I looked again at the picture, based on the swirls, I see some "breakage" or inconsistencies in the swirls suggesting that the swirls were incomplete or partially hidden.



Is that what you meant?

So if I look at swirls and they don't look like complete swirls, chances are that there are still oils.



Not sure if that makes sense... but thanks, I learned something new.



If you have any more tips, that would be great.

If youlook at this picture you can streaks where the dtergent could not break down the oils--see the darker areas? They are near the wheel well areas.
 
The G37 has one of the best profiles for a sports coupe. You really set this car off with a fantastic recovery.
 
I have a black G37S as well, this one looked horrible, but I'm also amazed at the work you've done. I've been using some Menzerna and a PC (afraid to hit it with the Makita), and still haven't gotten the reflective glass surface you guys did. Did you find the Infiniti paint to be hard or soft?
 
Outstanding work once again. G37 black paint is super soft but it seemed you finished it down perfect, really excellent work!
 
That looks absolutely amazing. If I was the owner of that vehicle, I would be giddy like I got a new car again.



Nissan/Infiniti paint is usually soft and it chips easy, but that paint was clearly abused. Did you talk to the owner about proper washing techniques, or is it a lost cause?
