Black F-150 from Carmax

2007 Ford F-150 4dr FX4 that a coworker had purchased from Carmax about 3 weeks ago. We have been trying to align our schedules for a few weeks and were finally able to schedule this behemoth for Sunday. The first few times I saw it on the lot, I actually thought it was in pretty decent shape, I was sadly mistaken after just a Dawn Wash. (I apologize for the lack of before pics, but it was raining during the wash so I was hurrying to get it inside.)

Process-

P21s on the wheels

E1 A2Z on the tires

Megs SD in the wells

Megs Apc 8:1 on the lower portions of the fender

Dawn 2 bucket wash w/gg and grout sponge

Mothers Clay with ONR lube

50/50 wipedown

I hate to be that guy but the pics really don't do this thing justice. I encountered a significant amount of holograms, oxidation, swirls, RIDs and with the exception of the front left fender, some pigtails.

And the tailgate:

I then moved onto the correction. The PTG readings on the vehicle were all very consistent averaging in the upper 130s. I primarily used the 9227 with 6.5" foam, but did break out the UDM/4.5" on some of the tighter sections.

I first tried SIP/CCS orange- this combo was correcting well, but with the heat and humidity the SIP wasn't playing nicely. I began adding drops of OP to the pad along with SIP and things were moving in the right direction and were finishing down very well. On my test panel I made 1 pass with SIP/Orange, 1 with 106FF/white, and the final with UF/Blue CCS. I'm positive that I could have finished after the 106FF/White but, to me, the UF seemed to add a little something extra. Here's a 50/50 following an Iso/H20 wipedown:

I continued to plug away and got into a great rythym on the remaining panels (didn't stop for any more 50/50s)

At one point the clients best friend, who has a 2007 black 4 door Lariat, came by and hung out for a bit. I hope to be gaining his business in the future.

When the correction was complete, I ONR'd, dried, and backed it out to check in the sun. The client and I were both happy with the result. I decided on DG105 as an LSP and applied two coats. Here are some pics right before I began packing up...

trim received Black Wow

Tires received Black Magic Plat.gel

I'm sure I missed a bunch of stuff, but thanks for looking.

Isnt it a great feeling you get when you finish buffing the first panel and then you look over to the next and see that much more swirled black paint staring you straight in the face?! :D

Great work. I bet you broke a good sweat! :D

Thank you guys all very much. I hope the next time a coworker needs a major correction they have a mini cooper or crotch rocket....these trucks seem to go on forever sometimes.

Great job, I feel your pain with the heat and humidity! I'm losing about 5 pounds per car just in sweat these days. Drink lots of gatorade!

very nice work. it's amazing what i little effort and care will result in. the guys a carmax would look at it now and say we could have got more money for this truck . ;)

i have to say - there is something special and almost magical about a freshly detailed truck that no other type of car has. sure this board has plenty of exotics and super expensive rides, but they still don't have the same effect on me as a truck. thing is... i'm NOT a truck guy (i have a honda s2000 for God's sake..).

i guess it's just trucks are meant to take a banging, and sports cars are supposed to look good. so when u see a truck like that... or you see a guy driving a nice clean truck - mad props.

beautiful work and i hope you get his friend's business next! thanx for sharing pics!
