Black CTS-V, heavy paint correction and Opti-Guard coating

RaskyR1

Rasky's Auto Detailing
The owner recently traded up his '05 CTS-V (which I detailed two years ago) for this used '06 model, and as you can see the paint needed a "little" love in order to bring it back to life. ;)

I had hoped to keep this job two a two step correction, however there were far to many deep RIDS which were taking too long to remove so I opted to bust out the rotary and wool pads.

Correction Process:

-M105 via rotary and Solo wool pad

-M105 via DA and Meguiar's MF cutting pads (finished down very well)

-106fa via DA and tangerine LC Hydro pads

Coating Process:

-Foam bath with OPC and CGCW to remove all polishing oils

-IPA wipe-down

-Opti-Coat(Guard) applied with supplied yellow foam applicator to all paint, wheels, trim, and lights. (8cc used)

Very deep Scratch (too deep to safely remove 100%)

Polishing aggressively around gas doors can be tricky! By using some fine line 3M tape I'm able to protect the edges during the heavy compounding while still getting very close to them....much better than using 3/4" masking tape. ;)

This is after the first two steps....look how nicely M105 finished down on the MF pads! :)

Not 100% gone, but hardly noticeable. (removed around 8-10 microns)

Amazing job Chad. Did you try D300/MF after M105/ wool at all?

Thanks Dan!

I actually didn't even try it. I only had a small amount of D300 left at the time and the M105 just seemed to finish down so well in my original test spots that I decided to just go with that. :)

Looks like glass, I'm sure the owner was happy! BTW - I'm interested too, which Solo wool pad did you use? what speed?

Thanks

That is perfect. And that paint is as hard as hell to make perfect!

Great job.

Thanks Justin! For some reason these black Caddy's are always a PITA for me to polish. :(

Excellent work, Chad!

Which variety of Solo wool pad did you use? The light cut or heavy cut?

Thanks Charlie!

I used the Heavy cut (Maroon) pad. ;)

I used the maroon pad at 1200-1500 rpms. ;)
